Eon Help being charged twice I think advise needed please
Hi All,
I'm new to this so please bear with me and it is long to explain. This is what has happened.
We bought a property back end of April and moved in a month later the house had prepayment meters with scottish power we didn't want the prepayment meters and my old supplier (Eon) offered to replace them for free. but we would have to use the prepayment meters (Keys) until the transfer over to them had been completed. We carried on using the meters with them and then on the 02/08/2010 they changed the Gas over to a normal meter and the following week 09/08/2010 the electric over to a normal meter.
We have just received our first bill off them we pay by dd at a set monthly amount. They have put on the bill prepayment charges of £92.09 electricity (01/07/2010 to 09/08/2010) and £23.09 Gas (12/07/2010 to 02/08/2010) then normal billing from the end dates. now am i right in thinking we have already paid for these amounts with the keys!!! I rang them today and they say these amounts are just put on there for our reference and that part is just a statement and not included in our bill but when you add all the figures up they have actually included it in the full billing amount????
If someone is able to actually advise us on this I would be grateful as I thought the whole idea of Key meters was so that people could not run up a debt!!!!

You need to call them again and explain it to them and ask them to reissue the bill.0

Thank you very much for taking the time to look at my post and reply. Don't think I could cope with calling them again! It took explaining it 3 times and to 3 different people and an hour today to finally be put through to a manager who then proceeded to tell me "she will call me back by 4pm Monday once she had looked into it because it crosses over departments and she is not trained in prepayment meters" so thinking of just skipping eon completely and going straight to the energy watch ombudsman.

I would advise all NOT to go with EON thay tried to get my area to sign up with them promising cheaper gas & electric prices & within a week of signing up thay hiked the prices up I chose to return to my original supplyer Swalec as I've never had a problem with them. Eon sent me my final bill but b4 I got a chance to pay it thay sent me another adding £30 on top of it so I paid it & phoned them to tell them that I had & thay said thay'd recived the payment & the account had been closed. I had not heared anything alse from them till 2day when I recived a letter through the door from the UDS saying they were going to take me to court over lack of payment saying I owed them another £22.36, as you can guess I'm furious I'll be phoning them first thing in the morning & telling them that thay can take me to court for all I care thay'll spend more on court proceedings than thay will get out of me. :mad:0

Hopefully one of the EON reps will pick this up for you on Monday morning - I've found their input generally helpful.0 -
You can easily check this yourself
Check the statement to see if the payments you made on the key (prepayment meter) are showing on the statement.
If they are then you are just being billed for the credit meter usage, even though it is a pre-payment meter you will still get details of how much you have used.
If the payments for the pre-pay meter are not showing then this will be because the payments will probably have gone to your previous supplier for energy provided by e-on.E-on will be able to raise a claim to get this money back.
Hope this helps :j0 -
Hi molly
I'm sorry you didn't receive a satisfactory explanation when you called in.
Even though Prepayment Meters require payment in advance, we have a legal obligation to provide customers with a detailed statement of their usage through the meter.
These statements show the amount of energy used, prices charged and payments received.
With key meters, the amount charged should balance out against the payments received.
Chippytea has already given an excellent description of what can sometimes happen.
If you continued to use the original key to top up the prepayment meter, all your payments will have gone to Scottish Power and will not be showing on your statement.
Don't worry if this is the case. There is an industry wide agreement to transfer this type of misdirected payment to the correct supplier/account.
The manager you have spoken to will be aware of this and will need to pass your account on to the relevant department within E.ON so a claim can be raised against Scottish Power.
Sorry again the agents you spoke with were unable to advise more clearly but hope this helps a little. Give me a shout if I can help further as will be happy to do so.
