The pvr time is down to 6months,

Is it? Since when? What position do you hold, are you a Clerk?

AFAIW, notice period is still 12 months and just because you have job offer does not mean you automatically get to leave early. You can apply to leave before your 12 month notice period is up, however this is by no means certain to be approved.

AS someone else mentioned above, is he eligible for redundancy? If not, having completed 15 years myself (Navy) financially it makes no sense what-so-ever to leave now, however somethings are more important than money.
  • regarding housing, might be worth checking out Haig Homes(an ex
service charity), to see if they have suitable properties in the area you wish to settle.

You can register for their waiting list. You dont have to accept
any offer of accommodation(although I think if you reject two suitable offers you'll be removed from list), so will just depend on
timing, if your husband decides to leave the army. Good luck with a
    difficult decision.

Sorry I cant post a link, but if you google Haig homes, you'll find their website

Is it? That's interesting to know.

The Navy is definitely 12 months notice period. In this day and age of tri-Service pay and allowances etc, I would have thought that the notice periods would have been the same.

So when someone joins the RAF how long do they sign up for? The Navy is now 18 years, used to be 22, which is what I signed up for.
All Royal Navy/ Royal Marines Ratings and Other Ranks join on a Full Career, which is for 18 years or to age 40, whichever is later. There may be opportunities to extend service beyond the Full Career, depending on the needs of the Service and your wishes. If you want to leave the Royal Navy, you can submit 12 months’ notice two and a half years after the end of your initial professional training. The exact length of this training period depends on the particular job you do and the level of training it requires.

Not sure about officers, but for junior ranks it is 9 years. Options then to extend to 12 and 15 at 4.5 and 9 year points. Extension to 22 on promotion to Cpl and LOS 30 on promotion to Sgt and age 55 on promotion to FS.

What's LOS 30, that is something we don't have in the Navy?

    Ah, thanks.

In the Navy we have Full Commitment (FC) which is 18 years and Extended Career (EC) after that though, that's not gonna be happening for the next few years, unless in exceptional circumstance.

Like I said earlier in the thread, in this day and age of tri-service pay and allowances, I'm surprised that engagements are the same across all three Services.

Different career profiles in all 3 services cause the different engagements I guess.
