I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)

    Hope that helps

After that, use https://www.hotelscomparison.com to find the best deal form all the popular hotel websites. Its a great site and I have found the best deals on my last 3 holidays using it.

To be specific for Barcelona, when I went I stayed at a hotel near the Place De Catlunya. I avoided Las Ramblas due to the noise at night but the hotel I chose was only a 5min walk from there anyway without being too close.

Feelathome Apartments from https://www.activehotels.com are about £60 night but give you more space and options than a hotel. Just of the diagional which runs through Barca but certainly walking distnace to old town, la ramblas, placa de catalunya, port and in the midst of gaudi's work.
  • Stay at the Residencia Australia, see Trip advisor under bed and breakfast.
They have a web site for prices and to book.

The rooms are clean and you can catch the airport bus to just down the street.

The owner was brougt up in Australia so their is no problems with speaking English.

He also tells you where to visit and gives lots of information.

Hotel Royal is very very close to La Rambla, by the Playa Catalunya. Excellent location and good prices. Well worth checking out.
