snow melting

Hi,
bought a run down house in April have since put in a new roof, attic insulation, cavity wall insulation.
So why is the snow melting significantly quicker on my roof than any other roof in the street. I live in a semi detached so every other house in the street is also south facing during the day, however its snowed until after sunset today but we are the only house in the street that has snow sliding off it? Can someone help please?
Thanks
Sarah

how thick is your loft insulation?
    it should be 270mm now.
    Get some gorm.
  • Is your attic a lived in area ? IE do you have it centrally heated along with the rest of the house ?

Is your roofing material different? New tiles could be leaching salt is concrete tiles.
  • Yes our insulation is 270mm
We don't use the attic as a room so no central heating up there
    Our tiles are slate composite?

We were wondering if its just because they are new tiles? They may not have much build up of moss or anything on them for the snow to grip to. There has been a foot of snowfall overnight which has sliden off the roof this morning (breaking our new guttering) all the other houses in the street still have snow entirely covering their roofs???

Maybe you heat your house more than your neighbours. What temp do you keep it at?

My house has the boiler on the 3rd floor with flu going up through the roof so whatever I do to insulate the lived in part of the house the loft still gets warm as the flu gives off heat on it's way out.

Is it something like that ?

Same here in my neighbourhood, a house with a new slate roof (must be artificial slate) has the snow slid off and crushed their guttering. Other houses the snow is still on the roofs.

How far apart are your gutter hanging brackets? Mine on my roof are 2 - 3ft apart.
  • Hi guys and girls, i have read info about roof insulation. I am wondering, is it natural for my new build, which is a 3 storey house. Attic is a bedroom, but rarely used, for the snow to melt and fall so quickly compared to 2 floor houses??

Is it a insulation problem?? Its a Persimmons house. Not had much go wrong so far touch wood. Just normal new build stuff, which Persimmons customer care are so good at fixing. NOT!!!!!

I would say that the tiles, being composite are reasonably good insulators, so that if the sun shines, the snow will melt next to the tile. And then being smooth, the snow will slide off.
