0844 numbers
MSE doesnt give any clues as to what/how/when to call as the UK callchecker only shows 0845/0870.
So my question is do i assume it is similar to 0845 or o870 or is it a special breed of number all of its own

Like 0843, 0871, 0872 and 0873 numbers, they are a special breed.
From a BT landline, 0843/4 numbers currently cost between ½p and 5p per minute to call depending on the 5th, 6th and 7th digits. Their 10.9p call set-up fee also applies.
Other providers charge their own rates (Virgin in particular charges considerably more).
Which company is your calls provider and what number do you need to call?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Worth a look to see if there's another number for the organisation on any documentation you have from them. If they provide a number for calling from overseas, that is often a standard landline. Some credit card companies do that, but at least one I use now detects if the call is coming from within the UK and just plays a recording saying to call the 084 number if so.

Looks like you could have a problem there, as they are doubtless inundated with calls and that is also a number which can be called from abroad. saynoto0870 give 0121 767 7790 as the main switchboard, but maybe you've already tried that. Plus that may only be a real benefit if you get cheaper (preferably free) calls to UK landlines. Good luck!
