Buying present for 102 yr old!?

I have a 94yr old that I buy for. She has everything nayone could need - she's had 94years to accummulate it all! She loves to get things like chocolates, fancy cheesy biscuits, or some posh apple juice. For the last couple of years I've made her up a little hamper full of treats. Supermarket finest range or M&S products are always well recieved. What about something like a batch of home made mince pies or something if you can bake?
I think its a lovely idea - there isn't enough neighbourly spirit and consideration of the elderly population in society anymorer.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
What a lovely idea, how thoughtful of you.
I was just wondering, as you said she had no family or friends - maybe you could go around to her house on christmas day for example. You could buy some nice biscuits or chocolate and have a cup of tea with her. It's the thought that counts after all and she will be lonely.
Also, as a subtitute for the dressing gown idea - how about a nice fleece blanket she can have with her on the sofa. Or even a pretty cusion for her back? If you're into knitting you could knit the cusion cover and buy a cheap plain cusion from the supermarket.
I'm sure you will really make her day. Hope this helpedToto, I

I really like heart-shaped diamond's idea. Hvaing a biscuit and a cuppa with her would probably make her christmas - I know it would make my elderly friend and either of my elderly grandmothers happy.r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0

Please dont buy slippers! You could accidently cause her a massive fall. Do you know what Care agency goes in? Ours is a huge national chain and we provide free slippers for the service users ourselves.
I would suggest a hamper of good wholesome foods as it is likely if there no family she will live on a microwave meal for lunch & a sandwich for tea 24/7.
I would get her a little bottle of whiskey also, When we do the hampers for the SU's and put some whiskey in they love it. We always get phone calls asking for another one! xHad my amazing little girlie 08/12/2007 - 11 days late! 9lbs 3oz

I was initially thinking a slanket, but then I realised how much I fall over mine...and I'm only in my 30s.
The hamper sounds nice, but with "treat" things such as shortbread, nice biscuits etc - if she's having multiple carer visits then she's probably not up to cooking for herself.
What about a book of "vouchers" if you have the time - one for you doing her shopping, one for a vacuum of her flat, one for a "cup of tea and cake" etc. Wouldn't cost much and would mean she gets to spend some time outside of her four walls, but in a safe way.
(Plus you get to feel good and virtuous)We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

If you're going to get her whisky then how about a miniture gift set. That way you're not buying her a massive bottle of the stuff for her to over do it?
Another idea would be a clock for her mantle piece, a pretty ornament or a bracelect.
I'm saying the bracelet idea because my uncles mother just died very recently, it was very sad - she was 83. In her last couple of days whilst she was at the hospital, she was wearing a beaded charm bracelet. I complimented it and she told me "My home help was wearing it and I liked it, so she said I could have it". She kept looking at it and smiling. So even a small minder like that could make this lady next door very happy. People probably don't buy her jewellery anymore - in saying that, she has nobody to buy it for her.

I think at 102 she has earned the right to a drop of whiskey. Im glad to see someone is bothering, as the oldies need looking after more than ever in this weather, can you not bring her to yours for xmas dinner or take dinner to her and spend an hour or so with her? Im sure some of your company would mean a lot more than material goods at her age.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

A flowering plant would be a nice gesture I think.
Re dressing gowns - the problem with these is that old ladies often have different taste in them to us, e.g. my Gran will only have one that zips right up to the neck, my Mum likes a button front one that isn't too long. So I avoid these kind of presents.
Although my Gran was very impressed with the bed jacket I once bought her when I was working in Italy, not sure she wore it much but she could at least show it off to people and tell them her granddaughter bought it in Rome!0 -
marks and spencers sell a lovely fleecey bed jacket. i bought one for my mum for her birthday in october. She is in a wheelchair so it is much easier for her to wear a short bed jacket than a dressing gown. I think it was £18.0

I agree with kegg, the bed jacket from M and S is lovely, and so snuggly. I got my 96 year old gran one, but its so nice I want one for myself. They are £19.50."If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.":DMiss Mona, The Best Little *****house in Texas0
