Volunteer work with a difference how do I explain to JSA

I don't think this would be a work camp. I'm tempted to say you will not be able to retain entitlement.
There are two provisions:
if you are a mariner (I have no idea if you are) outside of GB, you may be treated as available providing you would be available were you in GB.
If you are on an employment related course you may be treated as available.
In a massively tenuous bout of straw clutching I think linking those two somehow is the only option you have to attempt to retain JSA for one of the periods in question.
There are not 2 provisions, there are many.
I posted info about the work camp as I can't see a reason why the OPs circumstances wouldn't qualify (on the face of the info we have) so could you explain your reasons for thinking not?0 -
Don't sign off JSA automatically -explain your circumstances in full, supplying supporting documentation andmentioning the work camp idea. Let them make a decision and if you are sanctioned then put in an appeal and follow it through with the help of Welfare Rights/Law Centre and your MP0

Relevant to this scenario?enabledebra wrote: »I posted info about the work camp as I can't see a reason why the OPs circumstances wouldn't qualify (on the face of the info we have) so could you explain your reasons for thinking not?
A work camp has to be in Britain0 -
2 week 'work-related' training course?
+ 2 week Holiday in UK, available for work (ie - in the REMOTEST chance a job opportunity came up & you needed to be on-shore for it, either get yourself there (!) or sign off after the event.)?? :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
Relevant to this scenario?
A work camp has to be in Britain
As the 2 provisions you specified aren't relevant to this scenario I inferred that you believed there to be 2 provisions in total.
Please read my original post:
21369 A work camp is any place in GB (see DMG 070702- I checked this and the definition includes UK territorial waters adjacent to GB)0 -
1 you said you cannot leave the ship so signing on and attending interviews is impossible
answer to this sign OFF and one and a half weeks into the two week survey do a ship to shore telephone call to rapid reclaim and organise appointment for day your on british soil
you can also try the 'holiday' suggestions but just dont risk staying signed on without doing anything
if you are on a ship they obviously going to supply a bed and food for you so you have no costs for the 2 weeks
housing benefit will continue for the survey period but your living allowances will be minimal to zero so sign off[jsa only]
if you stay signed on but cant attend this can mess you up with sanctions for a longer period so dont risk it for a extra bit of spending money you dont need
after all survey ships dont have cash machines giro processing[bank] tellers onboard
enjoy the experience and hope it leads somewhere
when you sign off ofcourse ask if that is a good route to take or if they can just suspend service for 2 weeks. dont risk getting a sanction0
