ASDA tills restrict coupon spend to £3 per shop

I was in Asda yesterday with my handful of coupons and was told the tills are now restricted to £3 per shop (that's shop as in trolley load of shopping not shop as in store). Once it gets to £3 the cashier had to call a supervisor for an override, if it's £2.99 or less then not a problem, the till will accept this. I was told this is a change progammed into the tills nationwide - my particular store will still accept coupons to 30% of your shopping with up to 3 coupons the same but no more than £3. It was suggested that I should divide up my shopping into £10 bundles so that I can continue to use the coupons.

Can you imagine trying to dremember al the prices to divide your shopping up. Just how stupid is this coupon policy.
Put your money where you mouth is, and go and shop somewhere else.0 -
I had this happen to me in Asda yesterday. I gave the SA my coupons and asked her to take what she could. She scanned in £2.75 worth. The till flashed up a message to say too many coupons used call supervisor. The SA did and was told to only accept 10% in coupons in future. The supervisor allowed my coupons this time but in future the 10% rule will apply.0

In my Asda on Friday i spent £75 pounds handed over £2.50 approx in vouchers and the CA looked at them and said she would have to check as she wasn't sure if i had to purchase the items....i told her you didn't but she looked scared to put them through so i told her to forget it and i'd take them to Tesco as they do go through - next time i may take a copy of their coupon policy if i can find it online!!!!
I don't know how we are supposed to know the policy though when their staff don't!!0 -

I also had to 'educate' a CA at the Llandudno store about their policy of taking 10% back. He started reciting out the terms on the back of a Huggies voucher about not embarrising your retailer. I told him I knew exactly what it said - he caved in and I got my £1 off!One hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.0 -

Yep, I have also educated cashiers about their own store's coupon-policy. One Tesco near me says, 'max 5 coupons totalling no more than £5 and no more than 50% of your bill'. To me that's easy to remember, all the fives, but do the cashiers know it? No!
The other day in another store a cashier hadn't keyed in the right button first so the scanner beeped at every coupon, I had to tell her there was a button to key first. Then she started to read out the T&Cs on the first coupon and said 'I think you have to buy this product'. I said, 'all coupons say that but your store policy is to scan a few anyway'. Ok, she said, and scanned several happily!
I must make another Asda trip, as one of their stores used to take ANY amount in coupons (the CS confirmed it with a smile more than once!). I wonder what's changed at that store?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Which Asda? My mum goes to Minworth and I give her a few vouchers. She is almost 80. I don't want her to be embarrassed. I'm OK as I go to Tesco. Mine keeps you to 5 vouchers.0

Isn't it confusing how all the stores have different policies. My Tescos will take multiple coupons without batting an eye. My local Asda yesterday took 4 duplicate coupons off a customer in front of me, despite her only having a handful of shopping and not buying the product. I was watching with interest and pleasantly surprised after reading this thread, they acted like it was the most natural thing in the world.
When a newbie in Tescos challenged my coupons this week she was told by senior staff that she could take one each of coupons where I hadn't bought the product and duplicates where I had ie- buy 3 of product, can accept 4 of same coupon. I don't use masses but do range it between £2 - £6 of coupons on a lowish spend (no more than £20)
I'm just grateful for anything they take off.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

I think the problem is gunton that head office may have a policy but they allow individual stores to use their own discretion and there in lies the problem. Most Asda, Tesco and Waitrose stores will accept all coupons without purchasing the product so long as they stock the item. It's a case of try and see. I've never been refused and I've been in a few.
As regards where to get coupons, lots of links on this site to coupons or details where coupons can be obtained. Try emailing and asking different companies, they are pretty good and send samples with them sometimes.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250
