override numbers Virgin Media

Can any one tell me if Virgin Media no longer accept 0844 numbers when dialing abroad?

If so what is the cheapest way to phone Cyprus?
Waddle you do eh?

    You could try topupnow.co.uk

Make a £1.50 premium rate number call (may be slightly higher from Virgin)
    This gives you £1.50 credit.

Call a freephone number from your landline.
Cyprus landline calls are currently 0p per minute plus a 5p connection fee
(so 5p for the entire call)

    From their website:
    TopUpNow(17-12-2010)
Calls are subjected to a 5p connection fee.

    1) TopUp your phone line using the premium-rate number 0911-0331 331 (£ 1,50 per call)
    2) You can now call our Toll Free number 0808 - 1700 123, and dial any international number you want

Open a 18185 account and use their 0808 1 703 703 freephone gateway number to call Cyprus landlines for 4p connection + 1p per minute.

N.B. Although the MSE International Callchecker shows a number of 0844 gateway providers which you could use from your Virgin line, BEWARE, the charges shown are from a BT landline and Virgin charges a great deal more than BT for such calls.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

We've got a Tesco Calling card that has an 0208.... (London) number to dial for cheap overseas calls. Virgin seem to have started barring the number this evening. In the queue now for Virgin customer services now to find out what's happening.

    *UPDATE*
Virgin reckon their might have been a fault on the Tesco line, and now it's going through OK - so maybe c0ck-up rather than conspiracy.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.
