Awakened by a call of nature at ten to one (B.S.T.) this morning, I switched the T.V. on to capture that magic moment when G.M.T. started. (I know that I need to get out more). For I.T.V., this occured at precisely 6 seconds after 1 minute after 2 o'clock (B.S.T.) according to teletext.
I noticed however that the clock on the V.C.R. didn't change and was still showing B.S.T. until I crashed out about 20 minutes later. It was showing G.M.T. when I woke up this morning though. I was under the impression that the video clock was controlled by text so why didn't it change when the text clock changed ?
I know that this may be regarded as a flippant question but it just intrigued me and if any T.V. type techies could explain, I would be grateful. I notice that the clock on this site was a little tardy this morning.

I believe that video recorders consider that each 'day' lasts until 06:00 the following morning, for the very reason you describe. If you wanted to record something at 04:00 this (Sunday 29th October) morning, you would still do it as if it were BST. For the purposes of video-recording, the BST -> GMT transition is at 06:00 rather than at 02:00. (Let's hope you didn't want to record anything at 06:30 today...)

Thank you for that, especially as you managed to post 58 minutes into the future0
