Microsoft Security Essentials 2 released

as the title says microsoft has released security essentials 2, this update adds a heuristic engine and better firewall integration.

    Got a long way to go to beat Kaspersky .
    Improvement over last version could challenge Avast .

    Think it's entirely dependant on which av tests you read....they're not exactly consistent. Still gonna be avira followed by avast as my choices :)

    Thanks for that. I checked for Windows Updates about 5pm and it wasn't listed. Just tried again and it still didn't appear so I have done a manual update.
  • I think I must be missing something.

    There is no mention on the MS Security Essentials Site about V2 so I tried to upgrade using the Help options within the program and it reported that the lastest version was already installed. This is Version 1.0.2948.0

    No there isn't. Very strange.
    I imagine that, eventually, it will prompt you upgrade automatically.
    If you want it now, go to http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ and click the download button.
    It will take you through the upgrade process. It only took a couple of minutes when I did it last night.

    It seems that the new version was only posted on Thursday so perhaps they will try a phased auto upgrade.
