Having said that, an HMO with individual tenancies for each room have, I understand, council tax paid by the LL...
Good point Art. In our tenancy agreement which is a short 6 paragraphs it only states the rent. It mentions nothing about council tax and bills. But these were negotiated verbally with the landlord and have been paid by him for the last years we have resided here.
I know, I was kind of a douchebag not to read the terms before. But we had just arrived from Cyprus and needed accomadation quickly.
We have been thinking of moving for the last 6 months and we are probably going to give notice at the end of the month to move to a new flat.1 bed- upgrade!
If I register for the electoral register at our new digs and they ask where I have been for the last years and mention my previous address- do you think there will still be complications?0 -

Sure. But the house is registered under his name and surely if council bills were not being paid, the council would investigate?
We have been living here for 2 years and 10 months and have never paid any of the bills discussed as this was included in our agreement.(part verbal/part written). This is a shorthold tenancy agreement by the way that has never even been renewed.
How can the council force us to pay any council tax bills if the house/holder is our landlord?0 -
Not to mention we have 6 other people living here in 6 different rooms with precisely the same agreement with the LL.0

your apoartment MAY be classified as a separate residence which would have to pay council tax separately ... go to the Governments Valuation Site and input your postcode and you will see if it is registered as one address or two - then let us know0

If a building is divided into multiple flats there may be multiple amounts of council tax due. eg tax for single large house band F £900, tax for house divided into flats, 5 at £400 band D. Plus the regulation re HMO are there for a reason, as are gas inspections etc.0 -
It is a self-contained apartment in the same house as everyone- not a separate flat.
But a self-contained apartment IS a separate flat! Do you have your own front-door into the apartment, not share a kitchen or a bathroom with anyone else in the property? If the answers are "yes" then it will most likely attract a separate council-tax bill. A separate bill which you could be liable to pay yourself. For the last two-plus years, at that.0 -
