Lower the price of cruising

For anyone booking a Disney cruise, I highly recommend Dreams Unlimited, who are a US travel agent. They give you free on board credit that the UK TA's can't give and a lot lower price than UK TA's too, as you can buy the cruise seperate.
The cost of the cruise I'm going on was the same price as booking with Disney direct, but we also got $125.00 on board credit, which will go towards the tips.
They also track the price and if it comes down, they pass on the saving.0 -
On this thread something i have always wondered is why cruises never seem to allow more than a few hours to explore a city - is this to do with docking charges, or are there any that actually stop a couple days in each port? Its the main thing that puts me off giving it a go0

Most give 6-10 hours in ports, overnights are not common but do exist.
St Petersburg is probably the best known
We find that when we get off a full 8 hours is enough, if you stay overnight what will you do?
OK some local eating, maybe something local for entertainment.
Most people would stlll return to the ship.
We are happy going back to the ship to eat(paid for and better value), do some entertainment, but most important start the trip to the next port and be ready to tour between 8-10am after a b,fast.
We get round the needs more than one day by doing more visits a really good place might get a land tour for a few days.
Another trick is to do a trip with a different start end point and add a few days each end.0 -
Highly unlikely that Cruise Companies offer the best deal, much better to shoparound. Agree with stoneman that a good indicator is to get a quote from cruisecompete.com
Uk agents offer better value at the moment due to the Exchange rate. Always play the field.
When the deep discounts start the cuiselines are offerering on-line reductions and the comissions get so low TA's will not under cut0 -
Cruises are getting cheaper and there are plenty of discounts around. We have just booked a 10 night cruise to the Canaries for march at a ridiculously low price on Oriana.
Our tactic is to identify a few cruises well in advance that fit our schedule. Then we monitor prices with a target price in mind at which point we will book. At that point we check several agents plus the cruiseline for the best prlice. They do vary, especially in how much on-board credit they offer. For our latest one P&O were cheaper than any of the agents.
Incidentally, one omission from the list is Bolsover Cruise Club. Several seasoned cruisers mentioned them and they are extremely competitive on most occasions.0
