If you buy and fit your own windows. You must make sure they comply with part L of the building regs. Any FENSA registered installer could issue the appropriate certificate to say the windows comply. If you or a non FENSA registered builder installs the windows, you will have to pay your local council building regs department to come out and inspect the windows. They can then issue you with the certificate you need. Different councils have different charges for this service (you need to contact yours to see how much they will charge you). How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

Any ideas what these conditions are?0

All new DG windows should comply with Part L nowadays. The biggest sign of this is the use of 'Low E', or Pilkington 'K' glass on one side of the DG unit (this is always glazed on the internal side of the window.
Any building inspector will have a tester to tell him the correct glass has been used, and glazed on the correct side. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

To add to that, any unit lower than 800mm from the floor need to be toughened glass with a kite mark to prove it.There are also, but not very frequently, issues with load bearing. In some older houses, windows were part of the structure and when replacing with upvc, these need to be strong enough for the job.I have been made to insert steel lintols above windows in the past.0

So, where to get them from then?0

Use a local established firm, not one of the big boys would be my advice. They survive by word of mouth and will be more helpful in my experience.0

Strucual bay posts are now used to support load bearing bays there is a company called window widgets that supply these. Always look for a company that supply trade windows. Were about are you from? Also building control usually charge between £35 - £80 to inpect your new windows depending on your local council.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature and avatar.
