I want to edit some podcasts, and pick certain sections, and put them together in a single one.
Is there an easy and free software that may allow me to do it?

Download latest version of Audacity0

Yes, I'd second that!0

Should I go for version 1.2.6 or 1,3,12 beta?0

For mp3s ( and mp2s ) I use mp3DirectCut.0
-
1.2.6 most stable and most suitable if you're new to it0

It's powerful, just takes a bit of getting used to the interface. If you *do* want to invest a little effort in getting to know it, you'll find you can do just about anything with sound with it!

Remember you need to install both Audacity and Lame (read the readmes/manuals) to re-encode to MP3, but just Audacity if you have a nice music player that plays OGG files (open format not proprietary like MP3) - most decent ones will support OGG happily.0 -
I will get busy studying about it. All I really want to do is being able to pick a 2/3 minute clip off a 30 minute podcast, as it may be the only interesting part of it, and keep it as a note.0

Actually to do that shouldn't be too difficult - open the track, find the bit you like, highlight the bit with the mouse (just drag) and file|"export selection as ogg" (or MP3 if you install LAME). No hardcore manipulations needed :-) It's a 2 minute job once you get the hang of it I promise - it looks imposing, but this is pretty straightforward0

I found the video tutorial very useful indeed. Thanks.
Now, next question: once I have various small clips, can I put them together onto one single mp3 file?0
