We want to break up a journey westwards for our christmas holiday. Can anyone suggest a pub that would be nice for lunch that wouldnt require too many miles driving from a motorway junction roughly between Reading and Swindon?
Many thanks

The Halfway Inn between Newbury and Hungerford is good. Come off at J13 travel down the A4 towards Hungerford. The Inn is right on the main A4. Then carry on along the A4 and get back on at J14

you could go to the yew tree in highclere - its a marco pierre white place and do a special lunch menu - its off at junction 13, down the a34 (going south towards newbery) then then come off at the highclere turning (just past the Hamphire sign and prior to the services) then follow the signs to highclere - it is just outside highclere - it is about 10 miles away from the m4 but takes no more than 15 mins to get there0

Sounds like you've got some good local recommendations but I often use http://www.5minutesaway.co.uk/ to be close to junctions but avoid service stations0
