Maman - well done on reaching your 2stone:T:T:T You've done so well.

Had a bit of a sort out with my undies. Pleased to say that my inch loss means that I can now wear my nice new bras comfortably. A decent bra does make a huge difference!!! - especially when, like me, you have been rather well endowed with a (ahem) somewhat generous bosom - even at my slimmest. My little sister always moaned that the bosom fairy had given me her share as well as my own:p

Anyway, not much to report this end. Had to reschedule chiropodist from tomorrow to next week because I'd double booked - forgotten about helping at Scope tomorrow morning. (Head like a sieve sometimes).

Also booked a physio appt for next Monday, back and neck playing up - still it will be over 7 weeks since my last appointment. A great improvement on the 3/4 week intervals I used to have. This exercise malarky is definitely paying off.

Will definitely fit in the manicure later tonight.;) Just off to do some stretches and my bike.

P.S. Forgot to confess that I didn't get round to joining SW this week after all. Was supposed to go Tuesday evening but was just too tired. Will still keep trying to eat healthily and see how it goes over the next week or so.

Good news about the underwear;) The exercise must be toning you up. One of the things I did preSW was to treat myself to good some quality bras. They were very expensive and now they're in danger of getting too big:eek: At the moment I've only gone down a size at the back so that's OK.

I had a hospital appointment today. My GP referred me to dermatology because a sore spot by my ankle wouldn't heal up. They offered to cut it out there and then if I didn't mind hanging around and didn't have any special plans for the coming week. Advice was to rest up for a week to give it a chance to heal and it'll be two weeks before stitches come out. So I won't be able to exercise for a couple of weeks:D Obviously I'm a bit worried but fingers crossed. Upside was a lot of hanging around the hospital meant some more of Larkrise was read. At last she's visited Candleford and it's getting a little more interesting!

    Hi Maman

Sorry to hear about your session at the hospital, at least they did it then and there. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. How long before the results are back.

You may have read one of my previous posts where I talked about my birthmark on my face which became sore and itchy and began to bleed. My GP was quick off the mark too, it turned out to be a Basal Cell Carcinoma, sometimes also called a rodent ulcer.

I had to have it cut out (rather than lasered to be on the safe side). That was four years ago and it's fine now. There is a faint scar but it's hardly noticeable. On photographs one side of my face looks a bit strange but I seem to be the only one who notices. I am extra careful in the sun now and use a complete sun block over the scar.

Apparently Basal Cells Carcinomas are extremely common, especially as we get a bit older, and they do respond very well to treatment. Try not to worry too much. (I know that's easier said than done).

I'm reading a really funny book given to me by DS1.

Let me say first that I adore Jane Austen but I can also enjoy comedy skits that send up the genre. Anyway this book is called (Jane Austen purists look away now) Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It's P & P crossed with your standard Zombie/Slasher. It sounds awful but it is actually quite clever and witty.

The blurb on the back says "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read".

It's just a bit of fun for bedtime reading.

DS1 knows how to please a girl - he bought me the Pride and Prejudice DVD - the one with Colin Firth.;)

Thanks for your good wishes. Wound feels very tight today but otherwise OK. The hospital doctor told me that these things are very common on the lower leg in ladies of our generation as we were brought up wearing dresses and ankle socks! DH is being a sweetheart, just packed him off to Asda with an itemised list and instructions not to buy anything that doesn't appear on it!

    Talk later.

P.S. Will know results in 6 weeks when I have follow-up appointment.

Horrid cold windy day here - luckily no storm damage that I can see.

OH and I went to help at Scope this morning, OH no longer actually does anything but he likes to watch and join in the chat with the other ladies.

It is our wedding anniversary today - 28 years. Sadly we won't be going out to celebrate, just a cosy evening. I'm going to cook a Moroccan style chicken dish which OH likes and then we'll watch Hustle.

One of the main problems I have now dealing with OH's illness is that any celebrations are always tinged with sadness, will this be the last anniversary, were Christmas and New Year the last ones he would be at home.

I try hard to practise what psychologists call "Mindfulness" - basically living in the now and trying not to dwell on the past or worry about the future. Difficult sometimes.

Just done 3kms on the bike (didn't manage any exercise yesterday except a few half-hearted stretches).:( Note to self - must try harder.

Hope your leg is not too sore Maman, just take it easy - the world will still keep turning if you take a few days off:p.

    Have a lovely weekend everyone.

Happy Anniversary! I do hope you both enjoyed your special meal and evening together. I think you two must have married around the same age as we did. We had our 30th last year when we were both 62. They've been exceptionally good years which is what I'm sure you are conscious of when exercising mindfulness.

    Hello ladies,

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY LL :D I hope you both had a nice day?

Maman, wishing you a speedy recovery. Wonderful that the hospital gave you the 'have it done now' option.

My back 'went out' on tuesday! Getting better now so I have only just been able to sit at the computer again, horizontal rest is the only thing that seems to work so O/H has been doing most of the chores :D
My skin is very dry again, I have not drank as much as normal (difficult to get to the bathroom :o) Hopefully that will all change as I become more mobile. A serious slathering is called for!

Sorry to keep this brief, I hope you and yours are all well.
    Carmen xx

PS. Nice to see you here Bronnie;)

    Hi Carmen

Just a quickie to say sorry to hear about your back. It's a killer when that happens, as you say horizontal is about the only time you feel remotely comfortable.

Take it easy, get some reading done and watch a bit of rubbish TV. I have a selection of favourite DVD's for when my back goes or when I feel "off it". Little Women, Love Actually, Four Weddings .....

What with backs, legs and knees we aren't exactly skipping around like teenagers at the moment :o Never mind we'll get there.

Fancy trying some cartwheels anyone - better not - we'll all end up in traction:rotfl:

    hello ladies

Just a little follow up for your info re my docs visit for the dreaded VV.

Lady doc was very sympathetic but reiterated VV were no longer treatable on NHS unless complications presented. Fair enough, in my experience the treatment s haven't been successful anyway.

She emphasised the importance of skincare, flight socks, support tights etc. These new knobbly close-to-the-surface veins have a dry surface even though the surrounding skin is supple. I'm lashing on a handful of almond oil after shower, then a slather of Body Shop hemp cream before bed and in the morning. Feel this is something I need to start taking seriously now. She advised me about complications to be aware of.

What I have decided though is that luckily , locally we have an excellent specialist. He did the NHS foam sclerotherapy and works privately locally too. The BUPA hosp often advertise Open Evenings for vein problems, with a free 5 minute consultation. I thought I would take advantage of the next one, get together a list of questions in my mind and pick his brains ruthlessly!!. I'm reluctant to fork out for cosmetic work only, but I am a bit bothered about the possibility of future complications.

Horrible, filthy day here, grey skies, wind, rain - you name it. Perfect day for some housework:rotfl:

Thanks for your update Bronnie - lovely to hear from you. (How are you other lurkers doing - do join in we'd love to hear from you).

It was because of the possible future complications that I've decided I needed to get a grip and sort out my VV's. I've been putting it off for a long time.

I had a quick look at the BUPA open evenings and sure enough our local Nuffield Hospital does them so that's a good place to start. We have had dealings with a couple of Nuffield Hospitals in the past (OH's neurologist) and a couple of issues with me. Most of the consultants there also work for the NHS so I think that is probably the safest bet - rather than some unknown private clinic picked out of yellow pages. You just can't be sure what you are getting:eek:

Not sure what the day holds yet - at least no hospital appts for OH at the weekend:rotfl:

Off to have a soak in the bath - really stiff this morning, must be the rain but I feel as if I've seized up.

    Bye for now.
