Tesco Car Insurance

More of a rant than a request for advice as they are going to get an earful tomorrow.
I have had them for a year because they were the cheapest. Had no issue. Had my pass plus and they did a discount. Took a while for me to send them the pass plus certificate but eventually did. They then sent me a letter saying they attempting to take £82 from my card but it was declined. Yeah, maybe because that card was cut up ages ago. Why are you attempting to take £82, you're suppose to be paying me that.
I call them. They say sorry and sort it out, I request for some money for the phone calls too. I also ask why have they still got that card number on record when it is no more. They said they don't. Well clearly you fing do because you keep sending me letters.
I hear nothing for a bit and no money. I call up. They say sorry again because the person didn't put it through properly and get it signed off. They say sorry, get it sorted and guy that took call said he'd put in a complaint for me.
So I then get the letter about the complaint saying they are looking into it. I then call them as I end up with another letter that they tried to take £82 from the same card.
I call the guy dealing with the complaint. He's annoyed with the finance department as he doesn't know what they are playing at. Says I should have the money now. I check my credit card and I do. But he said he'll ask why they keep sending me these letters.
Don't know if he's been doing anything because I now got a letter today saying because they haven't heard from me in 7 days they are terminating my insurance. DESPITE me having paid it off in FULL!!
I will call them tomorrow and give them an ear full. Tell them to check their records and remove that fing card that no longer exists. If they don't sort it out soon I'll suggest to them I'll look at taking them to court. Or get Visa onto them to claim the money back, as Visa have bigger legal team than I could ever have.

Who is actually dealing with this? Is this UK Insurance or is this Ageas?
Tesco have started to use Ageas from the end of October, so it would be interesting whether this was either teething problems with new Insurers or disinterest from old company. Sometimes when companies have lost business, they do not always have the same focus on servicing the policies.
When you phone them, I would suggest that you don't give them an earfull as that approach does not work. Just gets their backs up, so they will not help. Always best to be polite and to ask to speak to the complaints department. They will put you through if you insist. If you manage to get through, you will find them much more helpful. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
why are they trying to debit £82??? is this a 1st payment following a renewal or following an amendment to the policy?
Or could it a be a refund for applying the Pass Plus alhtough I do know that this does sometimes try to add a debit to the policy due to system error but this should have been picked up by the consultant processing the discount.
As Huckster says also, Tesco moved all their motor from RBS to Aegis with effect from October 19th so you should have also had a new letter advising change of underwriters etc with your new renewal quote.0 -
Sorry for delay in replying. They complaints department is separate from Tesco now so I'm told. They are trying to debt £82 because they are idiots. They actually owned ME £82 from my Pass Plus discount. They've paid me that now but keep sending me letters saying they've tried to take £82 off a card that no longer exists. Then a few days later send me another saying they still haven't received payment.
Anyway, so I called them to give them an ear full. The guy dealing with the complaint had assumed cause he'd checked into it and seen I'd got the money to close the complaint, despite me still getting fing letters. He also wasn't in as was Christmas so another guy looked. He confirmed the idiots at Tesco had cancelled my policy despite me having paid it off in full. He looked into it while on phone. Managed to get hold of someone who agreed they'd cocked up and the reactivated my policy. He said they'd sorry but I shouldn't get anymore letters. Got no offer for the inconvenience.
They were essentially racketeering because of a !!!! up. If I'd not understood any of this and had panicked, I would of called them and paid them the money.
It's the 2nd Jan 2011, not sure when it came, but yet another FING letter saying they are waiting for £82.95
Idiots.
And to think, if I'd just ignore these assuming they were in error (which they were), I would of been driving around with no insurance and would of got screwed due to Tesco. I will have to speak to them again I think or write to them and say I will not be using them next year. I know Money Saving Experts says don't be loyal, always look for cheaper car insurance. But only reason I stayed with Tesco is because they were the cheapest0 -
cheapest aint always best, tesco are bad when its tesco via tesco with pi involved.0

Is there anyone independent I can speak to about this? I ignored the Christmas letter as thought that was the last one. I was wrong. Got another one now the 14th Jan 2011 now threatening me with a debt collector. So again, racketeering. Trying to obtain money from me that I don't owe them. Their complaints department seem to be useless as every time they tell me it's resolved now, a month later I get another letter.
They are getting right on my tits!0 -
Have you sent them an "Official Complaint" yet?0

No. I'm thinking of writing to their MD at the Whalf in Leeds. Their complaints department closed at 5
but found their insurance department was still open. Moaned to them about it. Yet again they've said we've looked at the system and it looks like their might be an issue with the system as they are still being sent. They claimed they'd get it stopped now, which they did there and then. But I've asked them to send me a letter confirming they will NOT being sending me any more threatening letters.
I will also send a letter of compliant as they've essentially been harassing me for 3 months now with their racketeering.0
