How can I make MSE faster for me?

Options
Hi I've been using MSE for quite a while. I used to be able to have lots of tabs open with different MSE pages. In recent months I've only been able to have a few open at the same time otherwise my browser gets really slow. It is generally just MSE that this happens for, so is not a problem with my computer.

I've installed adblock so I can stop most of the ads on the right hand side from showing. Hopefully this reduces the amount of memory each page is hogging. Is there anything else I can do? Are there particular scripts that make MSE pages run slow that I need to block as well?

Many thanks

I refer to all the stuff on the right hand side advertising different offers, eg. free photo calendar, switch energy NOW, restaurant vouchers, Full deals list, etc.

Have tried other operating systems but FF is still best for my needs. Windows XP, not sure about installed RAM but computer is relatively new and has about 80% free space. I have full and up to date security software.

I beg to differ if you say it runs too slow.

I use IE on Windows XP and have no problems with speed ... I use a relatively old computer too (so quite a low spec compared to modern ones) :)

Without attempting suggestions, or answering questions posed, it's impossible to give any advice.

Your browsing is slow, try another browser, if it's fast, firefox with plugins is the problem, try without plugins (especially ones that block content).

Security software can cause slowness, as can limited ram and high commit charge (the figures can be found in task manager, performance). Free space isn't relevant to speed.
