I agree with most of the previous posters, but I would say EVERYONE should read Michael Morpurgo's books, he is a fabulous storyteller. The first book of his whish I read was The Fireworkmaker's Daughter, which I read with my then seven year old son, it is a beautifully written book with some beautiful imagery, and amongst the books I have read, the one which has stood out the most to me, and the one which I read most recently was Private Peaceful which is simply beautiful.

I've ordered three of his books for christmas, if only Amazon would get their finger out and deliver them! The illustrations look amazing, can't wait to receive them.

i loved enid blyton as a child and had all the mallory towers and st clares series that were handed down from my sisters, though my favourite books had to be the naughtiest girl in the school series! Also was mad on Famous 5 and was heartbroken when I gave a copy of one to DS last year and he didnt want to read it :(
Hoping that DD will get into Mallory Towers, St Clares and The Chalet school just so I can go and get them all to read to her, might have to pop off to ebay and start searching, wonder if 3 is too young to start reading about boarding schools  . . . .

Just editing as I remember my mum used to read me the 'when we were very young' and 'now we are six' whinnie the pooh bedtime rhymes, 25 yrs on and I still remember them all and sing them to DD (and DS when he was small) when we are driving in the car

one of my fave enid blyton books when i was younger was those dreadful children if anyone knows it?

I have my mum's copy of that, I love it. I also loved "The Secret Island" and the Barney series which Enid Blyton did. I had two brothers and two sisters and we used to play at being The Famous Five(I was always George!) Strangely I jumped straight from Enid Blyton and the usual children's classics to Agatha Christie when I was about 12.

My two, who are now teenagers, could never get into Enid Blyton though. I bought my DD the first few of the Mallory Towers series but she preferred Jaqueline Wilson until she was about 12 when she declared it was too depressing to read about real life! She's now into vampires and werewolves(books that is!). I'm keeping my library of Barbara Erskine, Kathy Reichs and Jeffrey Deavers for her to read in a few years time - I can't bear to part with good books!

I loved Enid Blyton as a child I was and still am an avid reader, just got a kindle for Christmas so will be rereading lots of classics as they are free LOL.

I recorded the drama about Enid's life, apparantly she was not very nice to her children, just watched it yesterday.

I have a few of my childhood books on my adult bookshelf and I bought my children some of the books I had loved growing up.

I am not into Harry Potter I have watched the films when they were on on Sunday afternoons but they didn't really do anything for me...
