Hi all,

I'm doing a poll on starting credit limits with Barclaycard and I'd be really grateful if you'd be kind enough to share your own with me. I recently applied for my very first credit card (Barclaycard Initial) and was given a starting credit limit of £800 but I'm not sure if this is poor, average or excellent. I'm really excited to now have even more financial independence and I've been incredibly grateful for all the support our community has given me in making sense of them. I was told that If I manage my Barclaycard Initial account well then I may in future be allowed to upgrade to the Barclaycard Gold so that's something worthwhile to aim for.

Thank you very much for taking part :)

It was actually £750 - but there was no box to tick for that amount so i rounded it up to 800. Student barclaycard, fifteen years ago - so worth more than that amount now

The only reason you have got that crappy credit limit is because its a barclaycard initial, get some more credit history and keep your accounts in good order then apply for 1 of barclaycards decent cards.
  • Just about a year ago I got the BC initial card with £1000 cr limit, over the year I've only spent a small amount on it and cleared each month, and last week had a letter that as of 9/1/11 my cr limit is increasing to £2500.

I could have rejected the increase, but you never know whats around the corner;)

But seeing what starfire has put I may try an change it for one their other cards with a lower apr in case i need to put a bigger spend on the card as currently apr is 29.9%:(

I had a Barclaycard when I used to bank with Barclays. It was my first ever credit card, and had a limit of £1250. I closed it down when I closed my Barclays accounts about 6 years ago when I moved to what was A&L.
Debt free and staying that way!

Yeah barclaycard do have a good range of credit cards especially the simplicity card which is something like 6.8% on all spending and balance transfers, and also they have the gold and platinum cards which will give you better credit limits and a lot lower APR.

I'll keep that in mind. I was told that I'll be more than welcome to apply for the Barclaycard Gold in the future if I show that I can manage with the Barclaycard Initial, don't think I'll have any problems with this card and I'm looking forward to building a credit history as I understand just how important that is in these times.

    Have a good day :)
