how do we get our money back?

My son and his girlfriend have booked with thomson for an all inclusive holiday in Cuba for October 2011 and paid £400+ as a deposit. Now they have found out that she is pregnant and cannot go, mainly because the baby would only be 6 weeks old, but also the holiday is for adults only!!! Thomsons say that they cannot get their deposit back, even due to unforeseen circumstances like these. Any ideas of how to go about getting a refund?

Not sure that any holiday insurance would cover it. The pregnancy will be over by the time of the holiday.

You may be able to rebook somewhere else with only partial loss of deposit, otherwise I fear it's not recoverable

Dzug1, most holiday insurances will cover this, as they would class the infant as too young to travel to such a destination.

What the OP really needs to do is speak with her holiday insurance provider to check exactly the terms & conditions. And it will also be better for the insurance to settle now whilst it may only be loss of deposit, rather than cancel later and have to pay a higher %age of the holiday cost.

They could go into Thomson and change the holiday to somewhere different for an admin fee, Thomson may be kind and change the holiday for nothing, putting the holiday forward so the baby is a little older to travel

They wont get the deposit back from Thomson unfortunately, I would look defo into delaying the holiday but obviously they better to sit down with the brochures and see what would be suitable for them with the little one

the deposit is non-refundable---their travel insurance may pay out as baby might be only 4 wks old. babies can only fly past a certain age. they should also ask thomson if they could amend the holiday to a different date/destination.
