Don't be so silly. Going over to say hello to another dog is NOT 'running mayhem.' If there was any indication that the dog was a rabid nutcase (see what I did there? ;)) she would no doubt have called her dog away from it and it would have done so immediately.

Just pointing out that your flaming can go both ways by the way. :rotfl:
Think you need to own a dog longer than 14yrs........ your dog sud NOT GO OVER TO ANOTHER DOG TO SAY HELLO as you put it when there dog is on a lead ...........my dog as been ATTACK WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU and he as done nothing wrong ...... and if I am SILLY than you dont have any BRAINS ..... ITS a know fact that when a dog is on a lead they are or can be aggressive.......... but what do I know only had dogs for 40yrs BOXERS

:rotfl::rotfl:Goodness. You do sound a little angry. You could try posting without the excess capital letters to avoid sounding like you're about to pop a blood vessel!

I don't know what 'attack with people like you' means. Do you mean your dog has been attacked BY people like me? Or has attacked people like me? Or do you mean that your dog has attacked another dog that approached it?

My dog died. He was well trained, very friendly and never ever hurt another animal or human. He also mostly ignored other dogs in favour of wagging his tail at humans.

I dont' care how long you've been keeping dogs. If your dogs are vicious they should have a muzzle on them.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Sorry to hear about your dog, regardless whether she was on the lead or not I can sympathise with you as I know how horrible it is when this happens. Last year our Shih Tzu lost her eye when attacked by a GS, she was on her lead and the GS put its head through a gap in its own fence and grabbed her. Was so quick nothing could really be done. Police weren't interested at all and owner was as aggresive as his dog.

She is now a very nervous dog on her lead and when other dogs try and approach her I often have to ask their owners to keep them back. I do however exercise her off the lead in a big field by our house, she loves it and I am very confident of her recall should we see dog walkers heading to the field. I appreciate your point with regards to children walking dogs though, as ours is a little friendly thing I would have thought her 'safe' for an older child to walk but there is no way a child could have coped with her the day she was attacked. Hope yours makes a speedy recovery!

not a fact really is it...my dogs are kept on their leads because they would end up running off somewhere if they weren't on a lead.

my dogs have never shown aggression towards other dogs - i know there are some irresponsible owners who will happily let their dog off the lead and that is why i always keep mine on their lead so they don't end up going up to these dogs and getting into a fight.

Exactly! As I said before my dog will likely always be on lead because he is a Beagle and will run off tracking a scent!Once that nose is to the floor and they have hold of something seriously interesting they generally have a tendancy to go deaf:rotfl:That does not mean he is to be avoided!!!

Just to add, when we were out in the snow with him yesterday (yes he's only a pup) he was approached by an off lead collie.I didn't worry, the owner didn't worry.Snoopy and the collie sniffed each other and then played. So to the earlier poster who claims that I'll change my mind about off lead dogs when my pup reaches adulthood and has always had a life of being on lead, there's further proof that I won't...he's well socialised and has already come across dogs off lead, including ones approaching him.If it doesn't scare him now I can't see it suddenly changing one day can you?!?!?

I'm sick of saying it...NOT ALL DOGS ON LEADS ARE ON LEADS BECAUSE THEY ARE AGGRESSIVE!!!

How about this...you are responsible for your dog.I am responsible for my dog.If your dogs run over it is your responsibility to call them back, watch over them..whatever is needed. It would also be my responsibility to take my dog,if he was dog aggressive or generally aggressive etc, away and prevent him attacking your dog.BOTH owners need to take responsibility for their own dog,not every other dog owner taking responsibility and the person with the aggressive dog blaming everyone else and expecting everyone to keep their dogs on lead just for the sake of their dog!Deal with your own responsibilities!

Nobody says all dogs should be on a lead but everyone agrees that is a dog is off the lead it should have a perfect recall.
NOT ALL DOGS ON LEADS ARE ON LEADS BECAUSE THEY ARE AGGRESSIVE!!!

But some are and others are on a lead for million other reasons and lot of them (reasons) mean that the owner of that dog does not want other dogs approaching his/her dog.

So please get off your high horse here as you seem to be tottaly failing to understand....

And NOT ALL DOGS OFF LEADS ARE OFF LEADS BECAUSE THEY ARE POLITE AND WELL-MANNERED.

THESE are the dogs the rest of us have problems with! But you seem to be completely missing the point anyway...

Actually, the dogs I have problems with are the ones the owners know are aggressive and STILL take them out unmuzzled and let children near them.

I go on frequent walks in the woods with my children. It's a popular dog walking spot. Well behaved dogs that run ahead off lead don't worry me at all. Dogs that aren't under control off lead bother me - ie ones that try to jump up at us, waggy tail or otherwise.

But dogs that are walking on lead still have to pass us very closely and they're very near my young child's face. Regardless of whether they are on a lead or not, they can still do serious damage. Even if the dog hasn't attacked a human before, if it goes for other dogs, I don't want to be anywhere near that. And I don't want my children to be in the middle of it if a dog it doesn't like walks past and it starts attacking.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.
