Npower price changes

In May (I think - I am digging out the paperwork tomorrow) we signed up with Npower on their online V18 price plan. I thought we were locked on that tariff for 12 months but have today received a letter saying that they are changing there prices and wanted to let me know how this would affect me. Can they do this?

Look at your terms and conditions. The current ones for v20 say...
Sign Online 20 prices are guaranteed to be 2 % lower, on an annual basis, than our standard (off-line) variable quarterly cash/cheque prices until 31st December 2011

So I would guess they are entitled to make the increase so long as it is still lower than their standard rate.

Pretty much all the cheapest tariffs are variable tariffs with meaningless guarantees.

With nPower you have the potential of a triple (rather than the regular double) whammy (especially if you have a modest consumption) - massive increase to tier 1/daily standing charge + early exit penalty charges + loss of large dual fuel 'bonus' if you wish to leave.
