flight insurance

hi all i was wondering if someone is planning a long haul flight (only)then with this bad weather if that person cannot make it to the airport due to the snow or the flight is cancelled because of the same then is there an insurance or credit card that will cover the payment of the flights, the people concerned want to go to oz but are worried because of the weather over here being dodgy around this time of year....thanks for taking the time to read this and for any replies ;)

For peace of mind I would suggest travelling the night before and staying in a cheap hotel.

If they fail to make it to the airport and the flight goes then they would need to see if their travel insurance covers this situation as the credit card cannot help and you would be relying on airline goodwill or change fees to change flights.

If the flight is cancelled/delayed then the airline is responsible to look after you while you wait for the next flight that they can put you on.
  • so the credit card wont cover the flight... is there flight insurance as such??

If the plane is cancelled or delayed then you may get the offer of a reschedule OR a refund. The problems occur if you miss the flight through no fault of the airlines. They are 2 very different situations - you get there and there is no plane is a better result for you than you not being able to get there and missing the plane

Its called holiday insurance which covers flights etc.

Some have a 'missed flight' section but if there is long term bad weather and you dont take this into account when planning how to get to the airport they may decide not to pay out.

As already suggested, travel the day before.
