Disability Benefits and RSI?

Does anybody know if it is worthwhile trying to claim Industrial Injuries Disability Benefit/Council Tax Reduction Scheme/DLA benefits for RSI? I was diagnosed 2 years ago, following a typing job and although i am over the worst of it my upper body is still affected and i have to constantly work my life around my rsi for example i cant wash dishes, iron and carry shopping home all in the same day as that is too much strain on my wrists. i returned to work 9a different job) where it is not constant typing and writing but i still find it takes a toll. some days i am miserable with the limitations it puts on me.

has anyone here been succesful with the benefits?

Why not progress a claim anyway,as your not in receipt of any of these benefits what do you have to loose?

I Have had carpal tunnel for 8 years now ,it is at its worst ,i have put up with pain all this time and sometimes took 12 painkillers a day.I have done several diffrent jobs also and it just dosent work ,Iam off sick at the moment and ive been to doctors who sent me to hospital ,they want to do an operation on both wrists which sometimes dosent work .This takes upto 8 weeks to heal each hand but with all these bugs in the hospital im reluctant to have it done.Im awake all night and cant do ironing for to long shopping is restricted ,everything is restricted, even driving 7 miles my hands go dead ,i had to change my car from manual to automatic as when i had to change gears i couldnt do it ,it is an horrendous disease,i sympathise with you totaly. No one knows how your affected until you actually have got it yourself. The factory where i worked 8 years ago ,the company doctor said it was carpal tunnel ,but i was ignorant of it and thought every day it will get better so i just put up with it.I drop things all the time ,i get panic attacks because of it .I was told to put in for industrial benefit which was 4 weeks now ive also applied for incapacity benefit as when i do anything it aggrevates it where i just want to chop my arms off i also get neck pain and shoulder pain.I could of been getting I D B years ago and i didnt bother .If i was you i would go for it all as i know how hard it is to even to do your own housework.Ive had a few accidents dropping things, and hot dishes out of the oven,so i am totally restricted.Iwas told to claim D L A also .Iwill keep you informed how i get on with my benefits ,good luck
  • thanks, your right, sometimes i just want to lut my entire upper body into a sling so people can actually see ! they tend to look at you and think theres nothing wrong. i am going to go for all the benefits as recommended. i have only jsut found out about them, nobody tells you those things when you are first diagnosed. i also underestimated the impact it would have on my life even the simple things like not being able to iron at times is so frustrating. i have also contacted a solicitor to sue for compensation even though i can still work, it is a chore and i have had 3 different jobs in thel ast 2 years as sooner or later they all affect me! i think if i gave up work it would kill me as im the sole earner!
  • IMHO, any claimshould be towards your former employers. The tax payer should not be funding injuries that your former employer is responsible for.

With the massive expansion of PCs into the home and the playing of games, Muscular Skeletal injuries will be more common. RSI is a misnomer.

    Best wishes

Do go & get the operations done, it will transform your life. I've had both wrists operated on, at different times I hasten to add, after years of suffering with carpel tunnel & just wish I'd had them done sooner. I tried the injections first, which didn't help.

It's very rare for the operation not to work & you are now done as a day patient & not an inpatient so the risk of catching anything from the hospital is minimal. Why spend life in pain unnecassarily?
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
