Ipad advice

Thinking abut getting an Ipad but not sure what option would be best. Would mainly be used at home but would like the option of being able to use elsewhere occasionally. Does his mean I will need the 3G one and do I have to sign up to a monthly contract in order to be able to do this?

3g would mean you need a micro sim card you can get them on a contract or on pay as you go. or if you have a mobile phone with internet connection you might be able to tether them together so you can run the ipad through your mobile.

Would you really be likely to use it elsewhere where there is no wifi? The 3G model is about £100 more expensive than the Wifi model so quite a hefty markuo. Though the 3G model does also have GPS which the wifi model doesnt - this may not be of interest anyway, but means you can use the ipad as a sat nav and any other purpose where GPS comes in handy.

As said already, you dont need to sign up for a contract you can buy adhoc data allowance. E.g. £20 for 3GB data usage, which can be used over a period of up to 3 months. Or you can access the internet via your mobile phone if it supports tethering.

Don't buy an iPad now. There is a new model coming in Jan/Feb which will make the current one obsolete.

it is suggested that it will have a 6 or 7inch screen to be similar to the tab or the streak

The new one is supposed to be the same size (Steve Jobs doesn't like 7" tablets) but have a better screen and a camera as well as a faster processor.

I wouldn't be put off of buying one now though as Apple goes for incremental changes rather than sweeping ones so the iPad today will be good for quite a while yet.
