Hi im currently renting a flat privately, and am on a electric key meter. We use about 8-10 pound a week on electric, and now the winters coming even more, on them electric eating heateing machines. lol. I was wondering if theres anyting stopping me switching to a pay monthly bil? or is it up to the landlady? If I change would my electric be cheaper as oposed to a meter? manny thanks

I would ask the landlady as its her property. She may say up to you. I don't know what determines the tariffs on a key meter. And whether it is possible to change suppliers. (and that may be up to the landlady for example) I read somewhere that you can change supplier on a key meter and if so that may be worthwhile doing. It is possible to exchange a key meter for a normal meter but I think the electricity suppliers normally charge for it. And I don't know what the tariff differences would be.Indecision is the key to flexibility0

When I use the comparison site as recommended in the article, it doesn’t really give me a saving. But when I put in that I would change to monthly, it comes up with a more substantial saving.Total Debt - £0.00

Most suppliers will change the keymeter toa standard one for free as long as you pass the credit checks.0

You would need your landladies agreement. However, have a look at Ebico,
they are a fair trade not for profit supplier and have just one rate for each electric region regardless of how you pay (pre pay meter, DD etc). They are also about the cheapest supplier.

This is the bit about what they do
