It does look a reasonable price for an LED backlit. I guess what's starting to pull the prices of this type of TV down is the fact that the built-in Freeview tuner is not (apparently) HD, so you'll need an external box for that when it becomes more widespread.

Sorry about my knowledge, few stupid questions may be.

So it wont produce Freeview HD channels but just i can see only normal Freeview channels is that right. If i buy some external tuner then can i see Freeview HD channels.

How many freeview channels are on HD now.

what about if i have virgin/sky they telecast HD channel, will it be ok.

Upscales standard def well. Reds and greens can be quite garish. The sound is a bit pants, but it's not a bad tv for that price.

Yes you will just get the normal Freeview channels on that TV. Some form of HD box will need to be connected to it for HD channels.
There is a list of all HD channels and the platform(s) they are on here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_HD_channels_in_the_UK
Sky have the most, about 50, but, of course, they are not free. Currently £61 per month if you want them all.

OP theres sky, virgin media or freesat for hd channels and freviewis coming next year
  • very good TV for the money as others stated it does not have freeview HD channels on freeview hd atm are BBC 1 HD ITV 1 HD Channel 4 HD and BBC HD (Selective broadcasting)

the model up from that TV which is the 40c6000 has freeview HD and 100hz refresh rate (altho LED tv's are very responsive and at 40" it wont be too noticeable) and thats 799 on dixons

499 take it its a good price

Last year there was the samsung 40b6000 and on bank hol dixons were selling at 999 exactly the same spec just 40c5100 is a newer model:money:
    OP pot £141.92
  • thanks a lot for everyone. I can understand these basics now.

When I looked at HD tuner on a tv it was quite a lot more. I decided to go with just standard freeview and add a humax freeview HD box later. The tv I got coming is just for my daughters bedroom, yes its large tv for a bedroom but she uses a tv a lot and I thought I would spoil her given she has few pleasures in life

I got a Humax Hdr box on a Samsung 40" and I got it just over 2 years ago when they first came out, great boxes btw use it a lot to watch BBC HD, the new BBC HD one and ITV HD. This is for freesat and you need a sky dish preferable with twin LNB. I converted my old sky dish I didnt use it for sky and put a quad lnb and cable for around £20 plus fitting
