Post Being Stolen - Nothing Being Done About It

For the past couple of weeks things that have been delivered have been 'going missing' but we thought it was a problem with the Royal Mail rather than where we lived.

Saturday we went out and before we went I noticed that there was a book in our postbox in a jiffy bag and I left it, commenting to OH that we would pick it up on the way back. When we got home the book had gone:mad:

I immediately rang our housing association and got them to get in touch with the man who deals with the problems with the flats. Monday morning and he rang as requested; telling us that they could not put a letterbox in the door like we had requested MONTHS ago as there was no budget left to do the 36 flats in the blocks but could we wait until April when the new budget started:eek:

I rang the Police on the advice of our housing manager to get a crime number so he could authorise having a new lock put into the postbox as it has now come to light that most of the keys to the other postboxes open others...if that makes any sense!!:mad: In the mean time I am having to cover the postbox in brown tape to stop other people opening it!

What can be done about this?? I am worried that bank details and things are going to go missing because someone is stealing from us. We have had 4 parcels go missing now since we lived here; one from off the doorstep and three from the postbox because someone can open it.

Thanks in advance:T

  • Instead of trying to insist on your rights why not try doing something about it for yourself?

How about having your mail held at the sorting office for you to collect or re-directing it to somewhere it will be safe?

You could put a lock on the box yourselves, its pretty cheap to do.

CIFAS - register with them if you are worried that your ID has been compromised. This strengthens the checks that companies make when credit is applied for in your name.

Is it an easy enough job to change the lock on the postbox by ordering a new one if you know the name of the manufacturer or by getting a quote from a locksmith if it's a type you can't change yourself?

I've had the lock out myself twice over the weekend, but I can't find anything that's the same/similar to replace it with

get your mail redirected until it is sorted
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • Call RM? they have agreed with us to leave parcels and mail in a 'safe location' specified by us, as too often we are out and come back to a sea of little red slips.
Or re-direct to work, or a friend?
Have you thought of renting a P.O. box?

Also, check your credit history if you're worried about bank details going missing, I know there are many cheap/free ways of doing this.

Take the lock to a locksmith and see if they can provide the correct lock, failing this a padlock and hasp, if it is a wire box then padlock thought the mesh to stop it opening.

Take photo to DIY place or locksmith and ask them for advice
