Lightbulb Moment # 4

Oh yes, and I've written to the nice people (ahem) at one of the Credit Cards to ask them nicely if they'd mind giving me all the PPI money back I've given them over the last few years. I'm not holding out too many hopes for that as I don't remember the circumstances, but you never know! All I've done so far is written asking for the T & Cs and got a grumpy letter back asking for payment for it, so we're that far!Debt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)

Have finally had some message back from MBNA over my PPI claim. Well, actually I heard from them within about 2 minutes of my initial letter to say that I hadn't included enough payment to get a copy of my terms and conditions, but now I've written back with a £2 cheque they have confirmed that my request is "being actioned".Debt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)

3 posts in one day, I must be getting keen. I have good news to share with you all. I have just logged on to Nat West to try and get a new card and shift some of this debt over to a 0% card, and I was pre-approved!! I can't remember the last time that happened, but in 10-14 days time over 75% of my debt will be back at 0%, most of it for 18 months, so I can really work on that.Debt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)

Hi All
More good news, although slightly tempered by the fact that my debt level has gone up slightly. The reason for this is that as of today, every penny of my debt is at 0%, hence all the payments are pure removal of debt, which is a very good feeling. MBNA sent me a letter showing where I had signed to say I wanted PPI which was a bit depressing, but then when I logged on to transfer all the money off that card to my new 0% for 18 months one, they were also offering balance transfers at 0% 'til next July. So, a quick credit card shuffle, and now every penny is at 0%. Plus there will only be 2 payments to manage which also makes things easier.
I'm getting there, slowly but surely I'm getting there....Debt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)

Ah yes, and two more boxes ticked now, closed my Barclaycard (which has had no money on it for about 3 years) and also will have no debt where I bank by the end of the weekDebt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)

Morning all...
So I have good news and slightly bad news today. As of this morning, 100% of my debt is at 0% at least until July 2012, which is very good, the only bad bit being that the balance transfers have pushed me back over the £6k mark, although admittedly only by just over a pound! Anyway, I'm off to set up some standing orders to my cards so that now the debt will start to consistently dwindle with no extra being added....Debt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)

Afternoon all...
Glad to be back on, now that all my shifting of debts to 0% has been concluded I've ended up at just under 6,100, which is a tad depressing as I was under the 6k mark before, but I know in the long run that shifting those things around will make a big difference, especially as now everything is at 0% for at least 13 months. I've set up DDs for the minimum payments and also standing orders from both my account and the joint account of small amounts each week to keep the balances ticking over.
I've also been taking each of my expenses one by one to try and see where I can cut back. I started by looking at my breakdown cover for the car for which I am paying about £15 a month. When I saw that through using cashback I could get a whole year's (admittedly not as comprehensive) cover for £8, that was the first thing to go. We've also decided that we can do without the phone line as we both have mobiles, so that has gone too, but we're keeping the broadband as I work from home.
In addition to this I've switched the gas and electricity to a fixed price tariff.Debt at Lightbulb Moment #4 (December 2010)
