  • After reading this thread, it had inspired me to re-use an old box and a t-shirt polythene bag to send parcels in! It saved me money on buying a new box or envelope and I wrapped them in brown parcel paper.

Now the receiver will get their parcel safe and sound :)

Interested to know what the difference is between a used stamp that has been franked (ie the Post Office can see its been used) and a used stamp that hasnt been franked (ie the Post Office cant see its been used)???

Either way - its BEEN used and therefore cannot be used again. As an earlier poster said - what one is paying for is the "service" provided by that stamp whilst the letter its on is on a journey and ends up getting delivered by the Post Office.

So - either way - its theft. Sorry - I know its not what you wish to hear - but it IS the case.

Personally what surprises me most is someone putting their name to admitting theft on a public forum - so that everyone can see it and think "Right - Emstick14 - duly noted" and some people might know who you are ITRW. You just dont know if x years down the line the person you had just applied to for a job had realised who Emstick14 is back in 2010 and then when they saw you applying for a job/rental accommodation/etc remembered that post and didnt give it to you because of it.

Someone only has to tell me once about a very minor theft and if I can see its the truth - then that person will never get anything out of me ever again. A lot of us are glad of the "warning" as to what someone is like...

A USED franked stamp - is one that has had an ink stamp put across it - to show its been used an therefore stopping you re-using it!
A UNUSED franked stamp is a stamp that has missed having the ink stamp on, so it looks exactly like it did when you stuck it on, therefore in theory, re-useable.

I would be surprised if I was turned down for a job purely because I have re-used a couple stamps that were UNFRANKED, surely I would be given the job for using my initiative:)

Also I post under a nickname and it would take a really clever person to work out who I am just from my posts, unless my OH comes on here.....hmmmmm maybe he will shop me to the police!!!!

"Using your initiative" ........ That sort of "initiative" is precisely what employers/landlords/prospective "decent" partners don't want to see....

    Welll...I tried.....and the message went "straight through"....<sigh>

I bought a battery for my remote control the other day, it cost me 4.99. My dad showed me some christmas ornaments he'd bought for 50p that had the same battery in them already! Maybe if i'd have known / thought about that the other day I could have saved £4.49. I will definitley think of this in the future.

A vision without a plan is just a dream.
  • I sold some books & stuff on Amazon & Ebay, I often use a plastic carrier bag to pack items in with the appropriate padding. I have received really lousey feed back from people about this.

How draconian. She's re-used a few stamps, not robbed a post office at gunpoint. Lighten up.

I do it too - we get loads of stamps at work that haven't been franked, I peel them off and use them again.

I re-use Gift bags and jiffy bags for ebay parcels, plus all the bubble wrap that lines the fruit boxes in supermarket makes excellent packaging:D
Theres probably loads more that I do but can't remember :o
  • My mum reused a christmas gift bag this year and gave it to my auntie - I recognised it and we had a bit of a laugh. All my family is OS so everyone happily admitted they reuse all their gift bags.

I reused the one my mum gave me last year and gave it to my grandad but she didn't notice :D

My best friend and I always give each other a Christmas stockin and have been using the same two for years. Each year we choose which one we want (there is no difference really) and then save it until next year.

We also have a teapot that passes between us as a joke present. The art is to catch the other out not realising what it is.
