Moving into Flat where tenant was deceased for two weeks?

Iam in the process of moving out of my HA bedsit into a one bed flat as our properties are being converted into 2 bed flats. I was originally moving back into one of the two bed places but decided to go with the financial package instead.

The one bed flat I'm getting is in the next block I've been told. However, the previous tenant died in her bed but was not found for two weeks - sad I know but true.

The smell apparently is still quite bad as the local builders have now gone in there to do some work - it will be fully cleaned/painted/new carpets/curtains.
Iam still worried though as I don't know if the smell of death still lingers for some considerable time afterwards no matter how much cleaning is done.

Anyone else faced this?

There is no smell of death. There is the smell of other stuff though (bodily leakages and so on) that tends to permeate through the carpets/bedding etc. If these have been removed and the place cleaned then I wouldn't worry about it.
  • Ask your new landlord for a copy of the cleaning bill....

You've been round & checked the place out??

It's not a change of Landlord as it's with my current Housing association.

I've not checked the place out yet as they have only just gone in there - the lady was only found two weeks ago so I guess these things take time.
  • Check that the HA/Builders pulled up the floorboards in the room she died in as bodily fluids can leak into the flooring amd the smell will still be present.

Don't ask me how I know this
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)
    Ignore......check!

The HA should have sent in a Trauma Cleaning Service prior to any work being done to assess whether trauma cleaning was needed. Ask them if this was done.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
