Advice on British Gas Dispute
Options
At the moment my brother is on quarterly standard tarrif for British Gas. The last bill was amazingly high (£300+ with no boiler running) and as a result they stated they would hold off on us paying it and will check the meter to see if there are any issues.
This was about a three weeks ago and they are still checking if the issue was with the meter.
Under the above circumstances is it still possible to move from British Gas to another supplier?
His main concern is that if he can move he will end up having to pay the last quarterly bill and this bill at the same time or that the dispute might be a lot harder to go through.

He should get the dispute resolved first.
He could of course pay the £300+ owed, but if the meter is indeed faulty, BG won't want to spend much time & effort resolving it if he is no longer their customer and he'll still have an issue with the meter with his new supplier."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Thanks for the advice!
Just to clarify though BG have already changed the meter for a new one and have taken the old one to run the tests on.
I am just concerned, like you said, that if we do change there is no motivation for them to resolve the last £300+ quarterly bill. And worse still, give us huge whopping bill for last quarterly and what would be owed before changing.0 -
I dont think it makes a difference. I had a dispute for my OH and it took 7 months to complete. It seems to be luck of the draw who you get and if they are bothered to fully resolve it even for those at the complaints dept level0
