iMac gone wrong

Hi there,
I recently bought a 21" iMac for around £1000 from Apple back in mid October.
There is now a problem with the screen, which we think is screen burn. We are taking it back tonight and I want a brand new one, I don't want to send it off for repair because it's only just over two months old! Do I have any rights? I have apple care plus the year they give me and I have my receipt (obviously). Does it have to be sent off for repair, or can I be given a brand new one?
Many thanks, Jade!

It's up to apple if they either repair or replace. You have no rights to demand a replacement. I very much doubt it's screen burn.0

Completely agree. You would need to have had a static image on full brightness constantly for the last 2 months for it to be anything like screen burn. You got a photo of the problem ?0 -
Just for info - they don't send them off for repair, they are repaired in the Apple Store itself so it's really quick. They say 10-12 working days but if they have the parts in stock the turn around is usually more like 2 days.
As the other posters have said, you have no rights to a new replacement. If Apple decide it's not economical to repair, however, they will give you a new replacement.0 -
Trust me, it's screen burn. All the Mac forums have said so. It's because everything is contained within the screen and at the top left hand corner is where all the power is, thus causing immense heat compared to other parts which apparently affects it. Okay, well if I don't get a new one refund it will be! Not having it go wrong again.0

You aren't (legally) entitled to a refund, either, it's a repair now.teabythesea wrote: »Trust me, it's screen burn. All the Mac forums have said so. As other have said it'll pretty much down to apple to decided wherever you can refund. replacement or repair(it is a little more complicated) than that. It'll be a repair most likely. I have heard good stuff about0

Is it a kind of shadowy feathering coming in from the corner of the image? My wife had that on hers (after a lot longer than 2 months though) and I have similar to a lesser extent in the middle top of mine but not so much that it bothers me
It turned out not to be a problem with the screen itself but was actually just dirty on the inside. Hers was worse than mine because she smokes I think. All that was necessary was taking the screen glass out (it's held in magnetically from the front but needs a good tug with suckers on the screen to get it out so I didn't fancy trying myself although a friend has the necessary kit) and a bit of a clean. The Apple Centre did it for free, as indeed should any repairs be on such a new machine

As others have said you are not entitled to a refund or a replacement, having said that it's always possible.
If you still have the packaging take it back shiny clean and boxed up as new.
Ask to speak to the manager and ask him if there is any way that it can be exchanged for a new one as you need it deperately other the holidays to talk to your overseas relatives.
Be as polite as possible, make him like you and feel sorry for you.
Remember if you are rude or show any signs of being unlikeable you are screwed.
Good luck0
