set office to auto save your work, or better yet use something like google docs (works with all office formats and can download in office format for taking it into work/school) as that always constantly saves your work, as this video demonstrates (it's a fun watch) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lm-Vnx58UYo0

I am getting really cheesed off at my pc restarting itself randomly. It might be fine for weeks then it will restart ( and lose info) 3 times in 1 dayy as it did yesterday.
My son lost 2 hours of typing last evening ( will the teachers believe that..don't suppose they will).
I am thinking of keeping my monitor and getting a base unit.
Can I have opinions on this for the price ( I can get 10% discount at Tesco)

I will be using it for browsing internet ( virgin media 50mb ) and a few simple games.
Thanks
Paul
First up, have you checked that it isn't windows updates doing this? Mine does is for a time, and will restart the minute windows loads every time. If you press escape I think it is when it's loading you can do a system restore and go from a point before that. It may be a problem with the computer but it's worth a shot :-)Wise man once say "When in hole, don't dig"0 -

Open the case, make sure the fans are spinning and not clogged with dust.
Make sure there's no burning smell coming from the power supply vents and that the fan in the PSU is working.
If your PSU is underpowered for the new drives / a new graphics card perhaps, then that could explain the resets.
Could be a problem with an earth leak in your socket ring which would not be fixed by buying a new pc.

If you are happy with ubuntu see this- £220 - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/2397820

When mine started to randomly reset, I found that one of the fans had stopped working, so it was overheating.
I left my base unit case slightly off for the last year of owning it and it stopped resetting then.0 -
If its resetting itself it could be something simple as fozmcfc says his restarting pc was a fan which are pretty cheap0
