Prepaid cards in Spain?

Hello all....in March the wife and I will be heading to the states for two weeks. Reading through some of the info here I'm thinking it would be a good idea to get a prepaid card before we go. I'm in Spain and was wondering if anybody knew of any similar cards to Fairfx that I could get here?

Thanks for any help.

Caxton Card, I used mine in Spain recently and it was fine. The money exchange shops were changing at about the same load rate. It does save carrying lots of money. While in the exchange shop a couple of people came in and exchanged over £1000.00 each.

It's a question about prepaid cards ISSUED in Spain, not about using them in Spain.

Sorry OP don't know the answer. This question was asked some time back and AIR didn't get a definite answer other than do local research.

You could ask on the DIBB website (devotees of holidays to Florida), there are several forum-ites living in Spain who might be able to help.

A word of caution - don't put all your eggs in one basket, but spread your spending money, e.g cash, travellers cheques, a credit card (for emergencies, last minute shopping ;)). I know the UK pre-paid card companies say our money is ring-fenced and therefore safe, but if they failed I suspect there would be a period during which your cards would not work, until the administrators sorted out the finances.

    Have a great holiday.

There are lots of prepaid cards available in Spain, but I can't really see anything that's as cheap for overseas use as something like FairFX. Unfortunately many of the Spanish banks don't seem very transparent about publishing things like FX charges on their websites.

The Moneybookers card: http://www.moneybookers.com/ads/mastercard/es/que-cuesta/ charges about 2% in FX charges, so it's a bit cheaper than your average UK card (I don't know what a typical Spanish debit card would charge). It costs €10 per year to run the account.

The Neteller Net+ card is issued from the UK but available to people in Spain. The card is free but costs about 3% in FX charges and also charges for cash withdrawals: https://help.neteller.com/cgi-bin/neteller.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1306
Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
