Very old guitar

My 17 year old daughter has just decided she wants to learn the guitar. This will probably be a total flash in the pan so I'm not prepared to spend a lot of money on it. I have in the loft a very old guitar which was mine 30 years ago. It was a dead basic beginners guitar, and hasn't been used since. Would it still be any use or am I better looking on ebay for a bargain? Don't really want to spend more than £40 either way....
Hve seen this one....

It will be ok, but it will prob need setting up, a new set of strings etc....
by letting her use this one, then you havent spend loads of money on a new one if its just a 'fad' she's going through,
before making any decisions though, take it to your local guitar shop, and ask them how much they would charge to set it up for you etc...and then decide on what you want to do....plus you dont allways get the best bargins on ebay, so while you are in the guitar shop have a look around, as alot of the shops do sell secondhand stuff
edit just seen your ebay links.....I thought you might have been talking about an electric guitar... def go to your specialist guitar shop first before buying off ebayWork to live= not live to work0 -
The very old guitar in the attic will depend on condition, particularly the tuners, whether the neck is straight, the action (string height) and the make (some old beginners guitars are quite decent. I imagine it would need some work and a difficult to play guitar will not help.0

Thankyou. I did think it my need some work, and it's debatable as to whether I can get that done by Christmas. Am thinking maybe of buying one of the two I linked to, and then offering her an upgrade if she actually takes to it!!0

I'm sure I saw accoustic guitars on sale in Wilkinsons yesterday for £20!!! They were on special offer and had loads!0

Of the two listed the Walden is probably quite decent but I doubt it will stay that low in price. Harmony guitars were a quite reknown make some decades ago. Later on the brand name was used for cheap guitars from Asia. I assume this one is the latter. It is best to avoid really cheap, unless second hand and looking OK, as it might not be good to play which will just put someone off playing.
For less than £50 I might risk this one:

or the steel string acoustic that some Sue Ryder shops sell (cheap but not sure the actual price).

I have no idea about the quality of this one from Argos but it looks cute...

They are all going to be hard to play, as has been said they will need setting up (someone who is experienced could probably shave the saddle for you), and buying an cheap guitar can often kill interest at the first stage. Good luck0

i would suggest a classical / spanish guitar with nylon strings over a steel strung strung acoustic0

Does she fancy herself playing classical music or something popular written within the last 50 years or so? Or is this a precursor to getting an electroacoustic or electric guitar?
She'll need lessons. Depending on where she goes for them, they may have arrangements for using a guitar in class before buying one of her own, and will often have special discounts with local music shops.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
