Halifax Reward Current Account

I applied this account online on thursday, accepted and got my account number and sort code at the same time, On monday i received my online banking password etc.

I logged in yesterday and it says " Account holding" and still doing further checks....... dont know how long its gonna take and also i did transfer £100 in to that account but its not showing any thing on halifax online page but money is gone out from my other account.

Please Advice.

Thanks

  • It may not actually be open and can still be declined unless you have had a letter out stating otherwise. It could also be because they will be looking for ID from you in branch, which would also be included in such a letter.

Has it bounced back into your exisiting account as a rejected payment ?

You may find you have to depost some cash (£100) over the counter to kick your account into action.

Halifax dont seem to be very consistent with their application process for this account. I applied for this account a few weeks ago, was accepted instantly, online banking set up there and then, account opened, and I transferred in the £100 from my Natwest account, which showed in the account within minutes. Granted the money did a disappearing act the next day, for 48 hours (as has been reported on here), but showed back up.
I got a letter a few days later stating that I had been successful, and to provide some ID (letter said read enclosed leaflet, but there was no leaflet enclosed), and there was a form to sign. I gave them a call, and they told me I didnt need to provide anything as my account was "fully verified", and just to sign the form and either send it to them or hand it in at a branch, and that the letter they send out asking for ID, is a standard letter sent to all successful applicants regardless of whether they have to provide it or not (very silly IMO). Ive even had my first reward payment!
I would give them a call if I were you, to find out whats happening with it. If you applied last Thursday, you should really have heard something by now. I was quite impressed with how quickly everything was set up, but I know others like yourself, have not been so lucky

I did it online, was told it was all open so transferred the funds, only for the next day to receive a letter stating they need ID (leaflet refered to in letter wasn't enclosed either).

Then another letter (photocopy, with unclear instructions) wanting proof of income my last 3 months wage slips, plus more ID.

Took this the the branch last week and was told it would be sorted within the next few days, this week it still hadn't, so phoned them and the A/c was blocked, they stated I can't be retired at the age of 39. When I explained I'm retired due to ill health, they told me to take more proof of this to the branch.

So 2 trips the the brach and half a dozen items of ID / proof of income faxed across somewhere and they remove the block, so I can now transfer my money out of the A/c.

I'm not impressed with them so far, missing leaflets, unclear letters, branch staff that don't take the required information first time, 10 mins on the phone waiting to get through to a call centre who just say "You need to go into a branch"....

    Techincally you could use it.

If there's no sign of any salary coming in though, they may get a little jumpy, so I wouldn't!

This is a perennial problem. If the £100 arrives before the account is opened, they return it. If it arrives after the account is opened, they show it on internet banking for about an hour, then the steal it back and put it in suspense.

In my case, only a visit to a branch got this out of suspense. An extremely weird process. The HO department could see my £100. They knew it was mine. They knew it had been in my account but that they had taken it back into suspense. But they told me only a branch can put it back again.

With 30 minutes in the branch, the girl simply phoned the same Head Office, and they moved it back.

The £5 monthly reward payment will be paid into your account before the 10th of each month

    You should do, bilbo.

The requirement is that it's paid in each calendar month.

Keep an eye on where your salary goes in January, and if your employer hasn't updated to your new account details yet, then make sure you make another £1k payment by the end of Jan.
