Bluetooth USB dongle for laptop

Evening all,
Today I bought a Livewire Bluetooth USB dongle, from Poundworld, but can't get it to work.
It doesn't beep beep when inserted into usb slot & doesn't show up in Devices.
I've also tried Add a Device & Device Manager.
I have an Acer 5738g Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium.
It got mostly hit, some miss reviews on ukhotdeals so for £1 it was worth a punt.
Now, is there anything I can do to get it working? or is there another, better brand/more expensive alternative that works properly?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you need it for?0

I need it to update the firmware on my car radio, which needs to be done by bluetooth.
Apart from that nothing heavy duty, just syncing photos from my phone now & again.0 -
test it in other usb sockets first, and if it doesn't get picked up in any of them, it's dead. Get another.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer0

Thanks for the replies
I've tested it in all 4 USB slots, still not a peep.
I'll swop for another next time I'm in town.0 -

Buy crap, get crap. There's a reason they're a quid.0

Also bought one of these (Livewire Bluetooth Dongle). I can't get it working on Windows 7, the driver does not exist for 'Bluetooth Peripheral Device', and there's nothing on the net to help.0

When I replaced mine I just plugged it in and it was recognised straight away, then windows updated the driver software automatically off the internet.
I'm using Windows 7 too.0 -
Just so you are aware - the dongle works fine for picture transfer, etc. between a phone and a laptop for example, but all the dongles have the same bluetooth address/ID (which should be unique to each dongle) so I expect you can't use them to talk to each other from one laptop to another. But I guess that's what you expect for a quid.0
