How much to recover armchairs?

I am looking for a couple of squidgy queen anne style armchairs on ebay and want to cover them with linen covers.
Does anyone know how much covers cost? I can't justify Laura Ashley new prices but thats the look I want.I dont want to buy chairs then find it was cheaper to buy them new by the time I pay for covers.Where can you go to get good priced covers?

Made to measure covers, as in loose ones? Or would you want them properly reupholstered? Even a fairly simple loose cover for an old Ikea chair took me five hours to make so cost that up at say £10 per hour plus materials and you can see straight away it won't be a cheap job. I don't know about upholsterers but I can't imagine they're any cheaper per hour than a seamstress. Can you sew? Because if so, there are usually lots of good books in the library about making covers for chairs and sofas. DIY would definately be the cheapest way.

Reupholstering furniture is not money saving compared to buying new it seems :(

I have an art deco suite that I want reupholstering - the quotes ranged from £800- £1500. This did include new feather fillings for the cushions and springs that had gone etc but not the 24m fabric (the stuff I really like is £90m :eek:so no chance of having that lol)

We are saving to have it done as I can't bare to throw/ give away a beautiful peice of furntiure knowing it can be bought back to life and I firmly beleive that onces its done the quality will be far superior to off the peg stuff i could buy for a similar price.

reupholstering only makes sense if you DIY.
apart from valuable furniture it makes no sense at all.

cheapest pro shop will charge around 600 quid per chair or sofa.
and "plumbs" (brand leaders) loose covers are very expensive.

Not sure on price, but there was an interesting feature on my local radio station the other day when they were saying that a modern "reasonably priced" sofa is designed to last around 5-6 years of average use. It's worth factoring in to any "is it worth it?" calculations whether a restored older piece would actually be longer lasting than a modern version.

Certainly would echo the do it yourself idea!
