Plane seats changed for worse seats

Hi,

We are a family of four. We are flying to Santiago(Chile) and booked this holiday in June. We were allocated seat numbers together and now when the tickets have come through Air France have changed our seats and we are not sitting together. They were really good seats. We have not been able to get anywhere with them as they say the flight is fully booked. As this is a very long flight I would like to be sitting with my children.
Can anyone offer any advice or how to go forward with this please?
Thankyou

seat requests are just that, requests...they can be changed for any number of reasons. When is the flight? Can you check-in online? If so, sometimes additional seats open up at that point and you can move yourself around.

How old are the kids? If young enough, they may do something at check-in and move some others around...or they may ask once on the plane.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Presumably there are two 'legs' to the journey -- from the UK to Paris and then on to Chile -- so you will need two sets of seat reservations.

Anyway, there is a system for requesting seats on-line. Monitor your email carefully and be at your computer the moment that on-line seat reservations open, and see what you can grab. However, even at that stage you are only making a request, so arrive at the airport early and speak to check-in staff.

How old are your children and what seats have you been allocated...is it 2 seats together or 3 and 1 or four seperate seats?
I believe that usually airlines are unable to seat children too far away from their travelling adults...but if you are seperated by just a row or an aisle then unless you find a kindly soul on the flight who is willing to change seats with you there may be little else you can do....

You can definitely swap seats in the flight and make some arrangements in the plane. Or there are some tricks that you may adopt. Just tell that your wife is not well and may puke any time if you are not with her. And then I think you can move near your wife. And then you may just ask the people sitting next to you to let your children as well join you. ;)
Please click on the little Thanks button right there below my post. It will make my day.

That would also be the quickest way to get offloaded!

If the children misbehave, anyone sitting next to them would be glad to swap seats with you.:)

From the look of the OP's older posts, the children appear to be adults! OP, can you clarify please?

Must be the craziest post I have seen. Returning from The USA earlier this year a teenager travelling with her parents felt unwell before take off and was feeling sick. We were delayed until a doctor had visited and passed her fit, the family were very nearly offloaded

There is no way you can definitely move seats

If as you say the "children" are adults then I dont really see an issue, having said that the best advise is as others have said, be at a computer when online check in opens

There was a post on FT recently where someone was offloaded when they asked for ice for a twisted ankle. There was some debate whether it was the right thing to have happened, but it is another example of how easy it can be to get chucked off the plane! ;)
