Feeling a bit annoyed with E-on

You know how sometimes you think things are too good to be true - things were going so well...then....
OK, basically, I have recently moved into a property with prepayment meters in, the original supplier was British Gas for both gas and electric. I was with E-on on standard meters at the old place - no problem with owing any money, so rang to see if I could switch onto standard meters here in the new place.
'No Problem' says the lady at E-on, 'we need to switch your supply first, then it will take about 2 weeks.' so I say 'yes please'
All goes ahead with the switching supplier, although
for some reason it took a while longer for the gas to move over. At least 3 times during this process, I checked to see what I needed to do - and was told to ring once the supply was changed over on both meters. Did that last week, but some details were needed, so had to wait till today.
Rang up today to make the appointment - 'certainly madam - no problem, that will be £100'
Pardon me??? At no point up to today has anyone mentioned a charge for changing the meter over - ok, maybe I could have asked - but I would have thought someone would have said something before now!!
Number one, I don't have £100 sitting doing nothing the week before Christmas, and number two - how unfair is that - I am paying over the odds for my power because of the decision of the previous occupant - when I have always had a good record with the supplier. I know that the basic costs are not that much more - but previously I got dual fuel, direct debit and online discounts - which all add up.
I can see why, if someone has been in debt and a prepayment meter installed, they would want to recoup the cost of changing the meter back, but I am so so so cross that this was never mentioned in all the conversations I have had with E-on up to now.
sorry for the rant - I just am so fed up with this dratted prepayment thingy, and now it looks like I am stuck with it. GRRRRR

check with eon rep on here but from what I understand, Eon policy is, if you had credit meters at last property and paid by dd (assuming no massive issues with missed dds or consistently in debit), then will do meter exchange foc. I must stress the unit rates you pay on the prepay meter (same for all power co's) are the Eon standard rates, the only way you could claim you are over paying as getting no discount off the rates as a qcc (3% prompt pay discount if bill paid within 14 days of receipt) or mdd payer would get off the bill (8% dual fuel direct debit discount)0

thanks Airmike, I used the Uswitch website to check whether it would be worth changing, and they give a saving of £300 from the prepayment to normal meters over the first year, so basically, I'd get my money back in 4 months, the trouble is I just don't have the money to do it. I was under the impression I would be changed over for free, hence my annoyance!!!Getting fit for 2013 - Starting weight 10.1.13 88.1kg

Hi Tupperware_Queen,
I am sorry for the incorrect info you have been given from an E.ON agent.
As you have moved from a house supplied by E.ON with credit meters, to a house with pre-payment meters and moved the supply to E.ON, the meter change will be free.
As Airmike23 has already said, there can't have been any payment issues with your previous account (missed DD's or outstanding balances) and the account was with us for at least 12 months.
We may want to do an external credit check and will ask you to pay your future bills by Direct Debit.
Did you speak to the pre-payment to credit department?
If you need any more help, just let me know.
