Where do Tenants stand?

If a Landlord has several properties and they all get repossessed, but he then rents them out to new Tenants, what rights do the T's have?
Facts that I know:
LL owns approx 10 houses, Bank has repossess all in November.
Bank sends out maintenance company to change the locks 3 weeks later, which is this week.
Maintenance company find that all the houses are lived in. All are tenants with recently issued 15 months contracts.
My thought was the bank will give new occupants 14 days notice to leave, as the tenancies are invalid they have no right to be in houses. But my fella thinks the T's are protected for the length of the tenancy.

I think all the tenants need to go to the police as they have paid money to rent a property that does not belong to the "landlord".If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

There's an empty house near me. Think I'll put a tenant in and get a nice deposit + rent then swan off to Spain.
Be quick! That's probobly where this LL is going. He certainly won't be hanging about!0 -
So T's do need to move out, hence losing rent & any deposits?
I can't believe the gaul of the LL, but also the lackness of the bank I'm sure if they had changed the locks within a few days then it wouldn't have happened.
Feel really sorry for the T's as they are innocent victims.0 -
these tenants may have rights. It all depends on when they signed their agreements. The maintainance compoany will tell the bank that there are tenants living there and the Bank should write to them and they may need to go back to the court to get a new possession order. I suggest the tenants go to the local CAB or consult a local lawyer who does a free half hour. i would do this immediately0

Getting a new possession order and enforcing it could take a couple of months depending on how busy the courts are. In the meantime all of the tenants should stop paying any rent to the landlord immediately0

...but of course they should hold that rent to one side and not spend it in case this all sorts itself out and turns out that rent was legitimately owed...0
