Hi all,

Just got my notification of price rises from NPower.
I was expecting about 5 - 10%...maybe that was naive?

Anyway, I'm on Sign Online 18 for both Electricity and Gas.

Details:

ELECTRICITY
Was
Single rate 7.44p
Daily std chg 27.4p

4th Jan
Single rate 9p (up 21%)
Daily std chg 13.3p (down 51%)

However, my single rate usage is a lot more than my daily charge, so this equates to about 4.13% average INCREASE for my yearly usage of about 5000kWh...not too bad...

GAS
Was
Single rate 2.264p
Daily std chg 30.7p

4th Jan
Single rate 2.56p (up 13%)
Daily std chg 45.2p (up 47%)

Again most of the bill comes from the single rate, and for my annual usage of about 25000kWh, this all equates to about an 18% average rise!

HOW MUCH?!! Surely this can't be justified?

Anyone else on a different tarrif experiencing the same magnitude of rise?

Cheers,
Andy

As long as you have been on the tariff for more than 12 months, i would look elsewhere. If you haven't been on this tariff for 12 months or more then there's every chance moving away would cost you in the region of £145. One of the (myriad!) of reasons I would never be an npower customer.

edit: If you DO switch away, inform them immediately that you are switching away, you don't accept the rise and request to be charged at the old rate until the switch is completed. This is all OFGEM-approved and you have a legal right to do this.
  • MillicentBystander is correct, although this right will be a thing of the past when suppliers have to give advance notice (not sure if that's a positive or a negative).

The SOL tariff's have a cancellation fee but I have serious doubts whether NPower's systems are clever enough to apply it. If you do decide to siwtch let us know if it comes off. Check when your dual fuel discount is due, if its soon then you need to time it so you get the discount first.

Finally once you have found the best deal if you change supplier do it through a cashback website.
