Hair Bleached Yesterday- Bad head today!

I had my hair bleached yesterday, at my normal salon, Just the roots, i have them done every 6 weeks. When they put the bleach on it always kind of tingles and feels warm, well it did this yesterday just as normal.

I have woke up this morning, and have a big damp matted patch of hair on the top of my head, it feels all crusty undrneath, kind of scabby, I placed a bit of tissue on my head and it appears that my scalp is weeping.

I have managed to put a brush through my hair, but there is still a large patch of my scalp that feels dry and scabby, and my hair is still a little bit matted at the roots.

I have never had this before, does it sound like my head has been burn by the bleach? i really don't have a clue, and because its on the top of my head and my hair is really thick i really can't see what my scalp looks like.

All help and advise welcome.

Looks like some kind of reaction to the bleach.

I'd go back to the salon pronto and show them.

  • did you do a skin test before having it bleached?
  • Thanks for the replies.

I haven't had a skin test, i have been using the salon since August, and my scalp has never gone like this before.

I did have my hair done a little different yesterday, in that i had my roots done as usual, straight onto my scalp, and then i had some colour put through in foils.

See your GP as quick as you can, it sounds like quite a severe allergic
    reaction.
  • Sounds like the bleach was too concentrated. You've got mild chemical burns.
Go to the salon and ask them how much refund they'd like to give you.

  • It could be possible that you have become sensitive to the bleach. Contact dermatitis is nearly always caused by becoming sensitive over time to a product that you may have used for years then out of the blue your skin reacts with rashes and itching even burns. Bleach is a very toxic substance and apart from stripping colour will burn skin quite easily.I would get this looked at asap though by at least a qualified hairdresser. Dianne

I had it happen to me once

it was only around the lower back of my head, but the entire area was weeping & scabbed over, I just waited for it to heal, but if it'd been my whole head I'd have definitely looked for advice on how to deal with it

whatever you do, don't pick or dislodge the scabbed area, let it detatch naturally otherwise some hair's likely to come with it!

I hope you get it sorted out soon, it's not pleasant :(
  • Well i have been back to the salon today for them to look at it, they have massaged and treated my scalp, they too think that i have become allergic to the strength of bleach used, so are going to reduce the strength next time.

    Thanks for all your advice.

, so are going to reduce the strength next time.

There's going to be a next time  Surely if you have taken a reaction possibly due to an intolerance that has been building up then there will be a reaction every time?

not necessarily, as I mentioned above I had a similar reaction once, but I had my hair bleached again, Billy Idol-style :o several times over the next few years & I was fine

disclaimer ... but this is not to say it's the same for everyone
