I'm sorry of this post is somewhat maudline but I had some terrible, tragic news today.
One of my best friends saw her boss die on the road yesterday lunchtime after an RTA.
He was 36 years old with a partner who is expecting his baby any time now.
He'd just popped out at lunchtime. Now he's gone. And he'll never see his baby.
I just can't seem to function properly today after getting this news. I met him once in the Summer, he seemed a lovely man.
This is such an awful shock.
Doesn't half put things into perspective for me.
I was stressing yesterday that I couldn't pay off more than the £200 odd quid that I did pay off my VISA bill. (I'd wanted to pay off £400). Now, obviously, that is such a very very trivial matter and I feel rather ashamed of myself.
I'm paying off what I can, doing what I can. I'm not going to be reckless and add more to my debt but, I just can't stress about it anymore. It'll get paid off bit by bit and that will have to be good enough.
People....you just don't know what is around the corner. I'm not saying add to your debts but, if you spend a little more today on a coffee and a cake, then savour every mouthful. If you splurge on an outfit for a night out, then make it fabulous. Enjoy every moment when you are out, and be nice to those around you. Tell someone they look fabulous.
OK I am in debt, but I am here. Every day is something to be grateful for isn't it? I'm going to start looking for the good in every day instead of getting upset about the not so good.
Take care everyone.

An absolute tragedy, especially for the people left behind.
You are right, though, and it is a pity that it often takes something like this to remind us of our priorities in life.
Debt is only money - don't let it run your life.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Oh what awful news....so sorry for the guy's family and friends. How is your friend after this? My thoughts are with them too, awful thing to witness.
You are right about putting things into persepective though....my mum is in the process of having a relapse in her mental health at the mo.....which has stressed me out no end......but I have had to tell myself I have done all I can...and leave it at that...(and up to the professionals to deal with it)...it's either that or my health suffers to....and that won't serve anybody...
Hope you are ok LA...take care

Hi LA just wanted to say you and your friend are in my thoughts..
A couple of weeks ago we had a friend at school's OH suffer a fatal aneurism,he was just 32 with 3 kiddies. It just makes you stop in your tracks and rethink your life, which in some ways is no bad thing.Just try to be there for your friend in case she needs to talk after the shock subsides. All the best D XX0 -
Big hugs...things like that are awful & do help to put things into perspective.
We'll all get there eventually & one of the great things about being a DFW is that you do cherish the treats..because they're treats & not everyday occurences. How awful for your friend...if she has nightmares etc may be worth seeing GP as she may suffer from post traumatic stress which can often go undiagnosed so keep an eye on her...
Hug for you too & hope you also feel more like you soon...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
that is so awful and I feel for you and his family.
I totally agree with you I had my first experience of this when my best friend/we used to call each other cousins (although we weren't) died aged 15 of a brain heamorrage, I was 14.
Next 2 of my friends died in 2 seperate car crashes age 17 and 18
then my neighbour and good friend hung himself when he was 27,This was probably the most shocking 1 for me as I had just found out I was pregnant and wanted to tell him so badly, he seemed so happy and carefree, but his neighbour came in2 my work to tell me and I was not allowed to go home and peole kept saying "cheer up!"

Thanks for the responses everyone.
My friend is, as you would imagine, very much still in shock. I spent some time with her yesterday and she knows I am here for her and I will be in contact every day for the foreseeable future.
I was sorry to read the other tragic stories as well....life can be so cruel.Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.

LA - I've just read this. I'm so sorry to hear such terrible news.
I think there's a lesson in what you say, and you're absolutely right in what you say.
Thinking of your friend, her boss's family and most of all, YOU, today.
