Claim for cancelled holiday paid with credit card?

Is it possible to claim for a cancelled airline ticket paid for on a credit card? That is the only loss in connection with the holiday. The ticket is non refundable. The reason for cancellation is the illness of someone we were going with. I do have travel insurance but i would like to know the position with the credit card.

No you can't.
You might find your travel insurance also doesn't cover you if the person who is ill booked their flight separately.
Good luck though.0 -
Thanks. The person who is ill was going to drive back from Spain and we were flying back. I will try the insurance company. Thanks again.0

Yes, it's possible. After all probably most people pay with a credit card. We cancelled last year for a similar reason. The airline refunded the tax part of the fare and the insurance company paid up the difference minus the excesses. If you were travelling as a pair or group the excess applies to each person. I think we had to wait till after the flight date to get the air tax back, but can't really remember now.0

The cover you have by paying by card comes into play if the service you have purchased is not provided. The fact that the flight is still available with a seat for you means that you cannot claim that it has not been provided. As said - taxes back from the airline and try Travel insurance is your best bet0

Exactly. Its amazing how many posts here where people think the credit card is a catch all situation!
Section 75 Credit Card only protects you if the supplier defaults, and doesn't provide their service/product. In this case the airline has done absolutely nothing wrong! Why should they, or even your credit card company incur the cost?0
