Thank you so much for your messages and kind support - especially McBirnie for supplying the wording for the letter. It's typed and ready to be sent RD tomorrow morning.

I know his balance is around the £3,000 on his card, which is a ridiculous amount, but it's not really the balance that I've got the problem with (I've enough CCs with ridiculous limits myself, but I am up to date with payments on them), but it's the fact that they're phoning so often. It does make me wonder how bad it is with them - he's presumably missed payments etc.

His statements used to come to the house, but unless he's getting to the postie before me (possible, as I'm back at work full time now and he works shifts, so is more likely to be at home with the post arrives), then the statements aren't coming here any more, so I can't even get to see them to see what messages are being printed at the bottom.

He says that they are due a huge bonus at work around Christmas time, and that will enable him to pay off a "large chunk" of what he owes them, but for goodness sake, that's still nearly two months away. And why the heck can't he tell *them* that!

Even my kids have given up answering the phone now, as they know what they're going to be hearing at the other end!

Again, thank you for your kind messages. I hope that the letter works!

p.s. loving the notion of charging *them* £20 for dealing with phone calls!
  • It should be made illegal for them to harrass us like this.
Thank God I never put my mobile phone number on ANY documents that I sign.

It actually IS illegal - these parasites rely on the fact that the majority of people are unaware of their rights.

  • It is illegal under the acts quote din the letter above. However, not all people who owe these scum bags money are consumer savvy, so they think they can try it on.

Hello Hootie, how are things going with you now?

I suggest you lock your husband in a cupboard without food and water until he lets you see the latest statement - the fact that he's either hiding them or having them sent elsewhere is a bit worrying!

Hello CFC - well, until all these phone calls, I *thought* things were going ok! Seems like I'm riding the debt free train on my own though, for the time being, at least! Sigh, why do they have to make it so flipping hard, eh? Personally I think a cupboard is far too luxurious - I'm thinking of the garden shed!

Anyway, apart from Sainsbug's bugging me, things are going ok. We've changed the car now and although we didn't get anywhere near as much as the Galaxy was worth (auctioned it just to get it off the drive and for the least amount of hassle), we did use that to pay off a chunk of debt, which was a nice feeling :-). And after some shopping around, got cheaper car insurance. And of course, the fuel consumption is far far better than the Galaxy, so it's all helping.

I've been lurking on the Old Style board and making use of a lot of the slow cooker recipes etc that are on there, and have brought the monthly food spend down quite a bit - I've *even* done some home baking, with various success. One, however, was so successful (and probably the easiest thing I've *ever* attempted to bake) that I've had orders from husband's work for some!

As you may have read on another thread (families one, I think - don't know if you read that one), my daughter has finally managed to land a Saturday job in a local bakers, so she's feeling quite proud of herself (and we are chuffed with her too) and No.2 is earning money from working around the house. He moans like billy-o while doing it, mind you; but he *is* doing some stuff.

Poor No.3 is getting nowhere in his quest for work, and I won't let him do the only thing that seems to be open to a teen his age (14) and that's a paper round. So I'm afraid that until he is old enough to be employed by a "proper" employer, he's still getting pocket money.

Anyway, enough waffle lol. Thank you for asking. I can't say it's easy, but we are working towards a remortgage in a few years' time to reduce the outgoings (not increasing the amount though ;-))

I'm glad to hear that things are going quite well for you - except for some husbandly sinning. Try waving a cleaver around while you dance outside the garden shed singing, Debtors are going to burn...and rattle your box of matches. Maybe he'll confess then?

Really glad to hear that daughter has a job, that's really nice for her and will teach her the value of hard earned cash. No 2 son - oh yes, they all moan at the prospect of chores for cash, but again, you're teaching a valuable lesson. Just put your earplugs in :-)

Maybe do the same with no. 3? He's the one with some difficulties, I think? Not to mention that after the age of 10, there should be no free rides. I'm sure that you still have housework you can delegate!!!

Hey, maybe with the orders from your husband's work, you might have a part time possibility? Any chance of teaching one of the lads how to make this popular product and charging for the goods??

    Best of wishes,

    C
  • I sent the letter quoted above, on Monday.

Yesterday the phone went mad. I answered every call and quoted the law from the letter. Capital One called 17 times in the space of an hour and a half!

Today - not one single call! I don't believe it!

    Thanks!
