Best buy for £4k

Yep, I've never seen the insurance drop and still pay through the nose for insurance!
A Golf is what I'd elect for, nothing boring about it! You could pick up a myriad of tidy 2004 reg cars for £4k, just make sure you go diesel! Some options: Peugoet 307, Vauxhall Vestra, Ford (Mondeo or Focus) Rennault Laguna or Megane....0 -

Hell NO! my insurance is still a joke. 1 year no claims, driving since 2004, £1400 on a 1.7 diesel civic... doesnt help writing a car off last year!0 -
A bit more info on the type of mileage and driving you do. Most new drivers in your shoes would get a car less than 1500cc, low insurance and tax. Also what type of car you have in mind?0

Newbie- yeah I should have added the style thing in..to be honest it's a want rather than a need.
I will be doing a daily drive to work, which will only be 10 miles of so a day. But may need to do regular trips to other sites which are between 20 and 100+ miles away. If i want to go 'home' home it's a good 160 miles.
Annoyingly I need a run around, that is good at long drives...
Golf or focus are looking very tempting now!
I'm not a new driver though- been on the road for 5 years, 3 with my own insurance and 3yrs NCB.
Power doesn't bother me at the moment...I will only buy power when I can afford power!Wise man once say "When in hole, don't dig"0 -
I would suggest get a diesel car as close to your want as possible, it will save you money in the long run. I've had various cars over the years, most indulgence were 2 bmws which were wants rather than needs. Now it's sensible time and I have been sensible for past 3 years with 1.25 fiesta and currently 1.3 yaris

Have you not read the numerous threads on here about Hyundai and Kia engines and warranty claims?0
-
I don't think I'd buy Hyundai or Kia or any other Korean brands.
I am becoming less of a brand B*tch, but I still have a bit.
Ford, VW even french I could cope with for a while.
But not Kia
I know they aren't that bad anymore....but stillWise man once say "When in hole, don't dig"0 -

The odd one, here and there.. yes, but the overwhelming majority of Kia/Hyundai owners appear to be very happy with their vehicles.
At least they get long warranties with their vehicles.;)0 -

Have you driven one lately?
I had a Kia Ceed out on a 3 day test drive a couple of years back, I was highly impressed with the build quality and the vehicle overall.0
